I get the need and usefulness to restrict the availability of Heal potions. I get the need and usefulness to restrict the availability of Resurection scrolls and Wands. But Could we have a "raise dead" wand. I can just as easily carry 5 satcks of 10 raise scrolls so I dont see the Issue of restriction or availability. It would be more convient to carry one wand though.

There was a time when IoF had both rods of resurrection and potions of heal for sale in a good number of shops, easily accessible by all characters. With money not being an issue for most, these items were typically purchased in bulk by most players.
In my experience, this made most battles between groups a question of who had more res rods. One on one duels boiled down to rapid heal potion consumption. For classes who specialise in support magic/healing magic, this made them somewhat less than useful. After all... why bother taking the AB hit to gain enough levels in a class that can learn resurrection when you can just buy a rod and tank out?
However, there is a world of difference between being resurrected and being raised. While I was one of the people vocally advocating the removal of res rods/heal potions way back, I haven't seen the use of raise dead items to be detrimental or unbalancing. Any other oldtimers' thoughts on this?

TheOneKnownAsEarin: while wands are restricted to classes who can use them or have UMD, rods are without limitation. This is why everyone and their cousin was packing a bulk lot of res rods:-\ A 'rod of raise dead' would not limit who could use it. (Could someone familiar with the 3E rules doublecheck that for me?:-) )

I have a question that is partially related to this subject. Why doesn't Fredian use the 0 hp unconsious -10 hp dead rule?

That is part of the HCR set. We do not now and never will use HCR. You get to be alive right up until you are DEAD

Weighing back in Ah well wand vs rod. Ok got me there, yes rod of raise dead is what I meant, yeah that's it.
Res vs. raise ... Nope no res other than gifts of random chance inside chests and other adventured for things. If you didnt know they were in the chests sometimes well go adventuring.
Dead vs. mostly dead (0 to -10) Ok this is an outdated system that reaches way back in PnP. I don't like it, and never have. It was reworked in the new 3E+ rules but didnt seem to go away.
I'm with the Dead is Dead crew on this one. Why give you a potential +10 HP to every one. You can lay there dead at -1 or -100 and wait for some kind soul to come by and raise you. or respawn. So as for the (0 to -10) current rule seems to work just fine without it.

I'm for rods of raise, if possible. It would also help with inventory issues with having umpteen billion scrolls (you should see the red wizards inventory, finding a specific scroll isn't always easy ).

Hey Pheonix no complaining about inventory of scrols your the one selling the darn things. I know you could just as well make one on the spot but I have to give some grief to the person who murdered me. Well this is a Makz decision now so might as well lock it and let him decide we will find out soon enough.
