ive been in a few DM events recently, and i can say that the DM's are doing a great job with keeping order to fredian and to be creative for DM events.. youve hit the spot i think.
IMO there are no better DM's around.

Speaking of IoF + 9, I havn't heard much of Karl Yarrik, our English DM. Where is that guy? -Events: ok, I admit I have not been pounding out events like I used to. I think I have been content to step back and let some of the others have the stage. It might be time I do some more. I am in a time warp. I remember Makz telling me that since my PC leveled to 40 a month ago, that it was 'outdated'. The truth is, it seems like yesterday I was doing RP'd story events. I have never done an ad-hoc in my 10 months as a DM on the Isle of Fredian. I know that others enjoy them and I am content to step back and let my comrades provide that kind of entertainment, which really was just cartoonic for the first 6+ months For literary purposes, all of them are written out in great detail. Now on this matter, I am wondering if I should release the stories to other DMs to perform. I have at least 10 quests written down. I am sure I could annotate my stuff with some tips on how to perform them and things I ran into performing them the first time. It might lead to a nice slew of quest activity. It is doubtful that they would perform them, since their own creative powers need to be at work too. Re-runs have taught me that some events work very well when done multiple times, and others don't because they have open-ended endings that players tend to roleplay with on their own after it is done (it would be weird to have two groups of players roleplaying the aftermath of two performances of the same event). Cliques: True. I tend to talk with people I know. Any ad-hoc stuff I do is usually violent/spawn related. No stories. I hope that my formal events provide a way for players to make themselves known and with a standard time/place kind of thing to allow those feeling left out to get in on the action. -Should I do in-game advertisement of the events in advance? Like a little shout that there is a post on the forums about it. It seems a lot of people want in but can't because they didn't check the forums that week etc.. This next line sounds really arrogant, but I'm going to try be as factual with it as I possibly can. Historically, my events have always filled up. There has never been a need to advertise in-game However, those people really should have equal-access. It prevents the same cllique from signing up each time too. If the crowds are immense, I sometimes run them twice if it is runnable twice. It might be interesting if I run one and another DM runs the other showing on another night muahhaa The problem with Fredian is it is a kind of project you can never be too active with. If I wanted to dump, say, 80 hours into the server this week, there would be enough stuff for me to do to dump 80 in. It is like a bottomless pit that you can never really fill. I wish I could do events more.... I'm sorry.... There may be a MS-word document about Houses/RCS coming out in the next couple of weeks as I hammer it out with Makz. I am sure the profiteers (thinks of Mysaides for some reason) will be gearing up and readying to exploit the system before its even out Which takes me to my next thing... I'm really the only DM who is familiar with Fredian's design structure to add code, so it is kind of like "have addicted go code, let the others do the stories." But ya know what, all your comments really make me feel nice, so maybe I might write a little event on the side this week

I gave the DMs a Good Rating. There was no very good category. I think they border on excellence but there are still a few flaws here and there. For example, on DM today dropped 2 million gold in a "show off" move. I was quick enough to pick it up, instead of RPing the situation the responce was "I wave my hand and your gold disappears" No character, me included, that picks up 2 million gold should expect to keep it for very long unless they are GOD. Honestly, he should have threatened the crap out of me and if I did not give it back killed me, but to wave his hands from 20 feet away and make gold disappear Sorry, that not DMing, thats uber gaming. I also agree with the comments about shows and attacks on west styne. My chief complaint is the "Top of the Hill Attacks. Unless a Dev makes a way to get up there, even if it is a climb up a rope with a dex check, no monster that can not fly should be jumping up there and attacking. As straight out DMs for fairness and balance we are talking 9 on a scale of 10, and way better then 98% of the worlds out there.

I voted excellent, DM's work hard and keep me interested. I bounced around a couple different servers, and have found a home in Friedian. The DM's are always helpful, and keep storylines and events fun.
Thanks guys, you rule

I also have noticed very little DM interaction. Perhaps it's because I too am new, though Makz has telled to me many times since I've been here, which personally I think is awesome. Never have I seen the owner/creator of a PW spend time talking to new players like that. That is one of the main reasons I am even putting time into this PW. When the creator decides to take time away and talk to his players, even about non NWN stuff, it just reaffirms that if he's putting that kind of dedication into, so can I (on the player end).
However, he is the only DM-type who has ever even talked to me. I've only met one other and that was when I was bugged and needed help. The DM (I can't even remember the name) was very prompt and incredibally helpful. But other then that, I have had no RP experience with any of them.
I have no idea why. Wether it's because I'm too new, don't hang around with the normal crowd or just plain boring to be with, I don't know.
But from what I've read here, my case doesn't seem so abnormal.

*winks* You'll see us around, I promise. At the moment, it rather depends on when you are most likely to be online as to which of us you see. When we are solo on DM-side it is also less likely for you to see quests and the like running simply because it is hard to run an event and catch all of the questions, etc. without shorting one or the other. And Makzimia being so personable is what caused me to stay, too. Then I found out that Fredian has one of the most awesome player bases out there to grace a beautifully created world...I'm an addict now. Fredian is home for me.

If you want to interact with the DMs more there are a few things you can do. 1. Get on Fredian Team Speak, hosted by R1de. makzimia.proboards19.com/index.cgi?board=Chat&action=display&thread=1076195691Talking>typing anyday. 2. Send a DM message if you have something you want to 'do.' Not all DM events are, well DM events, many are player generated and DM assisted. 3. Sign up for posted events, there have been less lately, but don't miss it when they come up. I have had the most fun on structured, pre-announced events. I think posting them gets better RPers, as opposed to 'whoever is in W. Styne.'

The link to Fredian Team Speak is bugged. It comes up saying that site doesn't exist on this board. Though I've seen that mentioned in a different post and will check it out. I've been using Roger Wilco for years now and have used it extensively with NWN and a few of my other buddies. I love it. Being able to talk makes the game so much smoother. I'll check it out.
As for asking a DM for a quest, well, I've never held to that as a viable solution. I've GM'd on ultima online for many years and everytime a player asked for a specific quest, it made the GM's job alot harder. Some of the players became high maintenance, which took away from the rest of the player base. So because I hate working with high maintenance players, I refuse to be one as well, or even make it look like I am one.
If you've not had these problems, then I guess it's ok to try. I'll also keep my eyes peeled for scheduled events.
Thanks for the tips!

Mercator, you obviously know what you are talking about Hmm, ask r1de about the teamspeak link. He maintains it.

Hi. TeamSpeak sounds great. But what does it do to us poor individuals that are stuck on dial-up access. Will it, and I'm sure it will, cause lag in the game? If it does cause lag, and I'm sure it will, will the lag be local to me or stick everybody as server wide lag? I would hate to think my connection, which BTW is the slowest any of you can imagine, would be a drain on others by the rubberband effect (I think that is what A2RPG refered to it as). So maybe someone can investigate this before I install this program and listen in on all the DM stuff.
< edit: just downloaded the program and it took 1hr 15minutes>

Go ahead and try, many people have connected via dialup and played ok, but some have had problems. Any lag will be local...
