Meroim may be a bit naughty, but she's definitely not evil!

I don't need an intro either...
Okay, maybe I do... Ahlin is evil, neutral evil... Psh, I know a certain someone who got in trouble for merely standing in my house!

Really, I see no reason why assassins have to be evil. Agreed. For an example of a non-evil asassin... James Bond. Cheers Craig

So how do I play 'em? I play them to be who they are. I try not to be too odd with my class combos on alignment. I agree that assassins can be neutral or good (my father was a sniper in Vietnam), though follow the rules, and abide by the game mechanics.
Alignment is a guideline. We DM's do not get involved in policing alignments beyond the Law-Chaos axis which only we can change and you must have a GREAT reason and documented RP behind it before we will do so.
One of these days when I get tired of people carping about others' alignments or what an alignment means I will post up the happy alignment story from the 2nd edition AD&D players' handbook. It is the best explanation for alignment that I have ever seen!

I agree that assassins can be neutral or good (my father was a sniper in Vietnam), though follow the rules, and abide by the game mechanics. Well it's not like I h4xx0r the source code or anything. I play as evil when I'm becoming an assassin and play as good when I'm done and go back to good. Maybe the character is being dissilusioned by all the suffering he sees in his victims or something. I mean, I play evil heartless assassins too. I like the class. It just gets to me that they have to be evil, at least when leveling as assassins. The class is just a training set, it's how you use it that makes you good or evil. It's not INHERENTLY evil, like Blackguard, which is more a lifestyle.

I just can't RP as a bad guy, heck if I did made an assassin character, he'll still be a good guy, just with very wrong ideals .

I'm personally of the belief that a very good RPer can do both with reletive equal competance.... that said, I am not a very good RPer. If youre real good at RP, you can separate yourself from your own beliefs and personality and step into the other persona. Some call this schizophrenia - lol. I am in the same boat with Atlantis on this, any attempt at true evil by me either comes out flat sounding, or falls into the 'nice guy who does selfish stuff'. I just cant play that mess with your mind kinda guy. Thankfullly we have some here who can 'You CE? Yeah, its all good.'

I can't answer this because I play all alignments besides nuetral. Good gets boring after so many times and the way to get rid of that is to play an all out evil character. Nobody has seen me here play an evil character but nobody likes me play an evil character because they are rude, obnoctious and always threaten "their lessers" (everybody). The hard thing to do with evil characters is the quests but you can just make believe you are not doing anything but your quest for ultimate power. Going with other characters is a snape if you can find "your inner evil". Nuetral is just boring though because you have not chosen one side to stand firm footed against or with.
If I had a poll I would do which do you enjoy the most. I enjoy evil the most but I play more good characters to go along with most other PC's and storylines.

*chuckles* Well... hmm... I only have two characters... both of which are on the opposite side of the spectrum. Lumix of Whillem is Chaotic Good, he suffers from "robin hood syndrome". He's loud, drinks way too much, and even though he is a Bard he's terrible at telling stories. (I only started RP'ing as of January '04) so yeah, Im a newbie... *thanks Hanah for her early help when I was new to Fredian* ... so yeah, he's also the highest level Bard I have seen on the Island as of yet (lvl 23 pure Bard) Trashican Mang is Lawful Evil... he is a pure RP build (lvl 3 Gnome Monk) hehehe pretty weaksauce. I refuse to advance him anymore than he already is. Though the portals don't work for low levels I just end up walking. 'Trashi' is obsessed with fire (to a religious context) and his life is to only serve house Mein (specifically 'Hoody')... so the next time you are somewhere and firebombs start going off you'll know why (don't worry, they don't do any damage). Its just fun to RP it ;D So with this in mind I voted 'neutral'... I like them both. Lumix of Whillem rocks in Party, and Trashi is just fun to watch *sighs* now only if reality would give me free time to log in sometime. -Lumix

Yay bards! I WAS going to make a pure bard, but I ended up taking a level of barbarian and two of fighter (for feats, because I need LOTS of them, and because bardsong is too hard to keep up on anyway, you for example would need 65 perform to get it to work at level 23, I'll only need 50 by that point). I'm still not very high level with that char anyway. I'm just glad to hear that a level 23 pure bard is on the server.
