Get your racing shoes on and get ready for some fast and furious action! When: THIS Friday, 6pm. till..... you crossed the checkered flag or pass out. I'm expecting the 1st place champion to come in at 35-40 mins.... 10th place at probably two hours... WARNING! This event does possess the possibility that you might have to run through lawless, not-so-carefully-watched, very dubious territory. There is a chance you might encounter some ruffians along the way that could, or could not, bring about the abrupt end of your life There will be some DM supervision in the area of question to ensure the quality of the distraction =-) Cancellation?: This event does rely on new code being introduced to the Island. If testing finds it in anyway inadequate, and should fixes delay the event, you will be notified before *Wednesday* (I won't cancel the night before =-))..... although I have full confidence that it will be a go. Player cap: None. Prizes: XP mostly, various sundries, and for the heavy stuff... well, depends what I can get Makz to approve, but no one's going home poor. Prizes are staggered to reward all racers for FINISHING -- you do NOT need to be the 1st place winner to get something. Even if you are the last racer to come in, you still get something (albeit not as much as the person who came in first). What you should do now: Explore! Think you know the Island? Well think again, this just isn't a test of where things are at, but the fastest way to go from A to B. Monks Race Only?Wrong. Erith (r1de) got third place in the second annual styne race without haste when he was a level 9 n00b. A wizard without haste. He even died to the zombies in Styne, got a raise, and kept running. There were 8 racers in that race, 4 of whom he beat that had haste, and he came in on one checkpoint at 1st place. I garauntee you that your brain is a much better asset than your character's feet. I have seen it time and again. This is definitely one where the tortoise and the hare story plays out. Consider: 1. load times (take areas that are smaller and load faster when going from A to B. You can run up to 60' NWN feet in just 4 seconds of load time if you can save it). 2. Portals 3. Angular load positions (loading onto one map from another map and appearing close to another transition) -An example would be West Styne to East Styne. The temple of tyr is actually the fastest route, hands down (unless you're running a 286), NOT through the mines, like I see so many of high levels taking . Also there will be a consideration on how many monks place, and the rate that the reward degrades for each placement in the race is reduced when monks fill that slot so they do not "kill" your prize, and in the scoring, they rated among other monks. Barbarians are the same, but to a lesser extent because they only have a 10% speed bonus.

Hey C V - Im sure its 6pm Pacific Time (aka IoF Time) as that is where the server and Addicted live.
I think Id like to re-enter Vugor for this run... Silentus would be a more likely winner, but it isnt in his nature to compete in an event like this.
BTW, will KeHaars be enabled during the run? Last time I was in one of these the KeHaars didnt exist here yet.

Initially it would have required a bit of wrangling with kehaars and the new orb of the planes... HOWEVER, due to my insight, and a comment at least from Ambika not only can we, and do, disable where necessary kehaar book, but also the new orb .... at the start of the race, both are disabled now server wide, and at the end of the race, re-enabled. That is what addicited and I were up to last night, big test phase. I am sure everyone will be VERY happy with the results of his work. Makz.

Makz, please do not point me out as the person that reminded you to kill the Orb in 'certain' places and times. It doesn't take a rocket scientist (though given how dense some of team evil is perhaps you didn't reallt rat me out but Phoenix has red this so he'll spread the word) to figure out that I want criminals to stay in jail I look forward to the race. I'll even be nice and NOT use the lovely map that I have in my grubby little mits. Where would the fun be in that?

Not sure what you mean? I only spread the word to Getty, he said he would talk to Makz. about it. I didn't really think Makz. wanted that as a way out. Team Evil doesn't really exist anymore, they are either DMs or left the server.

Of course it's *easy* I can do it, but when I got sent there I was showing the orb to somone. Well, it just clicked that it might work, so I tried it.
I think Aviar was a little confused or miffed, not sure which.
I basically sent him a tell that the cell was empty and the locks looked completely untouched.

I would like to say thank you, for all who have entered, both as Racers and as Ruffians Ruffians be sure to contact me at the event time so I can coordinate both your timely appearance, and disappearance, from prestigious moments of the race, especially to the (loss) leaders up in front Folks flagging behind need not worry, it might even be your big break. As there is no cap, everyone can join in who is basically logged in. As Makz said, Kehaar will be off for most of the race unless I decide to sneak it on and off really fast from the DM console a few times (although it is unlikely I will do so, and if I do, it would be announced evenly to all contestants). The racing system automatically shuts it off when it starts, and automatically turns it back on when it is over. To give you all a feeling of what it will be like, you will see a object.. in the beginning they will look like flags, later on they may look like statues, a cactus, a tree, and other bizarre shapes. When you "touch" it with your character, it checks you in and tells you where the next one is (it will only give you the area name). Hit your TAB key to show useable objects in your area, it will aid you in finding the checkpoint. Maps may be less useful than you know! In the beginning, the checkpoints will be close together to give people a feel -- and a chance -- for the race. Expect simple circuits around Styne. However, around checkpoint 10+ they will start getting very far apart, and going to strange and distant places, and you will be faced with multiple ways to get to the same place, and you will have to make a decisions.... Good luck =)

This sounds like fun. I'll definitely do my very best to attend. Just a quick question though. Whatabout areas where there's requirements to access them? Such as Alvearia and Clevian? Will either of those areas be involved or perhaps be a way around requirements to be able to access those areas?

well, something like Ferrus would not be on the racing turf for obvious reasons. Everyone should be able to finish, regardless of class, skills chosen, or race. But if you have to bash or icestorm where someone else used picklocks, is entirely a different matter

5 hours from this post.
The clock is ticking.
If you don't know exactly where "Desert Cave 1" or "Wall Breach" is, you're in trouble! Get exploring!
There is still some time left!
