(I know it's on the backburner... but I want this bo be a suggestion nonetheless :


For SubRace selection, I have an Idea that requires a little coding tho:
- Make a NPC that you talk to, that asks you if you want to be a subrace.
- If you say yes, it gives you the list of all.

That way, you can validate a player's race and alignment, THEN display the proper choices in dialog. When the player has chosen, modify his "Subrace" field by replacing it by the newly chosen Subrace.

Exemple : Half-Dragon.

I want to play an elven paladin of Tyr called Aribeth (hehe, why not)
I want her to be Half-SILVER dragon (Lawfull Good in Monster manual).
Right now : I cant, and It sux... I would have to be half/gold, and I dont want to !

With the NPC giving the choices, I CAN, and it would list it because my alignment permits ! It would also list Drow (im an elf), Genasi(s), Half-Celestial, Half-Fiend, Aasimar, Celestial, ect... but not Duergar, Svirfneblin, Derro, ect, because i do not meet the racial requirement.

I know it's possible, and I volunteer to code it if you want me to. It would take a load of you guys work, and it would make me happy do do it. The only thing would be to find a spot where to put the NPC... Perhaps a small room before teleporting to the module (then we would end up at regular spawning point for new players).

I want to do it as well since it's going to get used in my module, and that I have AsDelhamor to help me.

It's as much a suggestion, than a request for the approuval to do it. ;D

So what do you think of the suggestion ?
And about Me volunteering to do it ?

In a word, no, because it is a VERY intergral part of the database structure of the world now. Nat has the ONLY other copy of the code for Fredian and he is working on checking the subraces for authentication against what they should do, and with a eye to MAYBE being able to add wings to the subraces that would have them, IF possible. That is as far as subraces will go.

Fredian for the most part is VERY stable code, because of how I built it, and had Salandra ( my wife ) do the various core systems prior to coming live properly back at the end of August this year. I will continue to accept other ideas and at time code and or areas, which I always will give credit for, to those that help. But something of this scale would require farming out too much.

We use NWNX/APS & MySQL database systems and
even APS has been modified by Salandra who is a very high end Oracle DBA and more titles than you could shake a stick at only thing we admit she does not understand, and that is why Nat is working on it, is the D&D structures, and this system was based on Coldblades work, which was buggy, and she at least made it more stable and predictable within the constraints of NWN code, at the time. Subraces are a bonus, we will get them to at least work as they should, best we can, then they are put to rest as is.

Nah, no problem man.
I'm stubborn tho, and I'm coding it nonetheless

So far, I've gotten the validation part right; where you talk to Mr. Deamon and depending on your alignment, he gives you your available sub-race choices.

For Exemple : My Lawful-Evil/Elf has the following choices :
- Half-Dragon, Blue
- Half-Dragon, Green
- Half-Fiend
- Drow
(But not Half-Celestial, Aasimar, Duergar, Thiefling(must be chaotic), ect... I didint do the genasis as they dont exists in my module, and you didnt need my help... )

Then when she picks a choice, I assign the subrace field with the proper value.. let's say "Half-Dragon, Blue", and then I teleport her into the real starting area.

Then it's your regular On Area Enter that picks up the SubRace and BOOM ! IT WORKS !!!

The only glitch is to validate whether a player already had a subrace assigned so They cant change it later if they get teleported/appears in that "Introduction" area again !
