This isnt so much a suggestion as a thought to consider. The other day I was approached by someone in tell (Im sorry,I forget who). I gave him my standard "sorry, I never RP in tell..." line cause I dont think that makes sence. He agreed as a whole and said he was on a server that had a messaging system not dissimilar from how the guild chat worked. It laid out something like this:
In order to send a message to someone, you had to go to a 'post office' (storefront) and type in what you would send. The message is then instantly sent to the remote player by a messanger (Faerie, Balor, whatever...) The reciever cannot respond immediately unless he is at a similar store, so it is not a realtime chat - more of a messanger pigeon affair.
The person I was 'tell'ing with said they had Tell turned off on that server. I am agaist that (as some of us hard core RPers frequently discuss how we will handle the mechanics of a RP session there, and it is nice to chat with friends sometimes) , but the messenger is an intreging way of handling remote communications that would be legit from a character RP standpoint.
Something worth investigating maybe...?

Ok I am wondering why you can't just asume the tell his something like that... I play a sorceress and I usually just pretend I am casting message When someone asks but it really is not that big of an issue... a system like you describe is a lot of programming for... well something that can be done thruough the board here or with the Tell... ((acording you use a bit of imagination))

Usually if I need to tell/ask someone something in RP and I feel the need to use the Tell command I will head it with something like *a raven(depends on what character i am playing what animal i would head it with) flies up to you with a message* and then followed by whatever it is the scroll would say. It doesnt take much to head a Tell with something like that, if you can not wait to "actually" speak to someone. ...Although the guild messengers are fun so this other system kind of like that does sound interesting. Not everyone can be telepathic, some people forget that at times

((acording you use a bit of imagination)) Nope, considered that and generally dont agree with it. My primary problems with it are as follows: 1. Messageing someone far away (particularly if you dont know them) is not something that would likely be a simple matter for low-level mages. Not to mention no spell slot was reserved for this. 2. Many characters have no native magical abilities to cast such spells - so how are they initiate or be able to return your tells. In Vugors specific case, his native intelligence might preclude him from even being contacted! 3. As a player I frequently do not know the class of those wh osend me a tell - sometimes it is the first time Ive ever even heard of them. I am not willing to just assume that they are RPing responsibly enough to know that only a mid-high level mage might be able to contact me this way. As it stands, I will continue as is - I will not RP in tell unless I know there is a specific RP way for it to occur. As far as the message thing, Im cool with that, but will not reply in RP as there is a matter of time to get the message back (even if I had some affinity to get a woodland creature to return a message for me - which Vugor doesnt for sure!) Im not saying that something like a messageing system needs to be put in, just that it is something that I think might be of some value.

Actually I am a pretty high level mage and A speel when there is no restriction on rest is not that bad... I still think tha a messaging sytem shouldn't be implemented... And it is your perogative not to use Tell in play... but I use it and don't want it to be diasbled... Maybe some player should offer there services as mail man... (it would be a nice rp idea) But I would not do it...
I also think that the implatation of a mailling system is a lot of work and would like tpo see all the effort it would take be put to something else...

I think the key to good roleplaying here is if you want to the tell to be IC make sure to wrap it with something like "you sense magic in the air, your hear the voice of a powerful wizard, his words echo: ..." or "a carrier pigeon drops a note that reads: ..."
If someone contacts me in a tell I always take it as ooc, If they want to talk IC, I just ask them to meet me. But a well crafted IC tell would definatly catch my attention.
