(oops, hit enter instead of tab first)
Put a bounty on their ears. When someone kills the giants they drop an ear. Then the characters who helped kill the giants either divide the ears or turn them in as a group (some people leave earlier than others), but have a Castille representative near the portal who gives "x" amount of XP and GP for each ear. The story line can be simple, don't want the giants coming to Fredian or Fredian is growing and we need to try and make room on the other island but the giants don't want to share despite the nesecity.
Just a thought.

Thats kinda interesting. Hopefully Makz considers it! Potential problems I see:
1. No scaleability by level: A 39th level character probably should not get the same XP as a 30th level character. This could be solved by having the ears be a moderate amount of XP (75 or something).
2. Abuse potential: This could be a way for players to barter XP - there are actually some real neat concepts around this as I have always felt there should be RP rewards of some kind, but there could be some real abuses too.
3. It will flood the giants activity: We all know how Ferrus was (maybe still is, I got sick of it). I hate to see any area so overloaded with bloodthirsty characters. This could be ported to various craatures of course, but that becomes alot of manual work for Makz and company I suspect.

Yeah and yeah.. and no... sheez... you have NO idea what PIA this whole XP bug is... I have spent SO MANY man hours on this now.. and I have proven once and for all that it is a bio bug... I swear anyone else gets on my back about how lousy the XP... Go to bioware forums en masse... and post about this.. if I am the only one that says anything to them.. they will not pay attention!! Tell them we don't play single player, we like playing in a world with others.. and actually like getting some decent XP as well as our RP for our efforts. Only other solution... drop play for low level PC's and up that scale to 150 like the single player game and make all Mob's nasty, no more fire beetles. Instant level 15 or higher PC's. Do you want that? Makz.

Well you mentioned this once, and i don't think you liked this idea but....
A while ago you mentioned making a portal to another server, well you could make a another server pumped up like you said just make it unaxcessable until lvl 15. You could always try it as a test.... Just an idea...
Another idea is I liked seeing all the new low level pcs when your site was listed on gamespy, I wanted to know if maybe you could list it on gamespy 1 day a month or something just to bring in some new young blood... Hmm.. just an idea....

Mak,
I, and many others, know that Bioware totally screwed the XP system, long before HotU. I was trapping impossible kills alone at 4th level and getting more XP with each level until 9th or 10th and then it started dropping. This was with original NWN.
We aren't blaming you and I personally hope no one else is, but we would love to see a work around that works and are brainstorming ideas for you to consider.
Most of us don't know how NWN bases XP, the programmers probably don't even know.
As far as ears for bounty, they can be scripted so that who ever participated in the kill gets one added to their inventory. It can also be scripted that the ears cannot be given away or dropped. Then when the characters visit a designated NPC they are awarded XP based on how many ears they have multiplied by their level multiplied by a variable based on their current level. I do not know the exact scripting for this, but do know it is possible.
It's extra work to get it set up, but once you get it set up it should be easy to assign different items to different high level creatures for future expansion.
Another possibility, tell everyone that you are leaving things as they are, and if you would rather kill 10,000 bats as opposed to 10,000 bandits, go for it, if you make it to 40th level without going nuts you will know you earned it. No power leveling with characters who aren't at least 5 seasons and it must be rped in some fashion.

After spending countless hours on this problem now, I have come to the following conclusions A: Bioware made it this way on purpose, B: most players that come to the forums are not the whiners about low XP , as evidenced by the majority no vote to changing the XP scale up to single player level to pay out more, C: I will do what I can to make the game still reward well without resorting to even more workload than I currently have. I had better see a lot more votes, there are at least 40-45 regular players if not more. Kick some players into making a stand for a change if you know anyone that has not voted, or when you are OOC tell them... if you have not voted on this get in to the forums and vote! Makz.

I voted no since it basically warps the XP system out of whack in other ways... Did you take a look at any of those OnDeath scripts mentioned in the thread on the bio boards?

Mak,
Leave the XP system alone for a couple weeks and make things that make you smile and happy, no amount of XP you could give us would be worth havinf you burn yourself out.
Besides, if you get your mind off it it will probably cause you to consider more ways to fix it, that "wake up in the middle of the night" system.
Even if not, people are still getting higher in levels. Those of us who like to measure our progress by levels will always find a way.
I, myself, am working on crafting, RPing more and gaining XP. There is so much available to do on Fredian that I am in no rush to do anything in a rush. I may spend a day or two on quest and then a few on crafting and RPing in betweeen with different people. I'm not huge into RP yet and I seem to have earned a reputation as the chicken police because most evil and some non-evil characters don't think of it as rustling and theft from the local towns folk.
