I'm a DM myself at times, and I'll say my piece.
Not all DMs in the world tend to do this, but being kissy and reasuring the players who are trembling in fear is not technically good. (For instance //don't worry guys, they're easy" or //don't sweat). Keep the suspense and don't say anything consoling. Keep the fear quivering through the hearts of the players, it's part of the fun and the loveliness that is the event where you know unpredictability will occur! Players should rarely complain about difficulty, unless something casts wierd and timestop on a level 1-10 quest (Hah, that was soooo cool!) So DMs shouldn't have to worry too much about whining, especially when you get dished out the awesome rewards! (I made money and I'm happy, thanks Karl!) Players need to expect that events are designed to be hard, frightening and wierd!
And players, if a creature talks out of the normal, don't spaz out... IT'S AN EVENT! YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO DIE! I mean, errr... Have fun!
Please don't kill me Karl!

LOL....the reason that happened was you guys jumped the lich before i could remove its death spells! As you noticed afterwards, even without its death magic, it was still a handful. There isnt any way I would plant a lich into a lvl 1-10 quest without nerfing it!!! Apart from that, the event in Styne Village crypts went *really* well, thanks for all the nice feedback I got from that.
