I am new to this server, and on one server i play on it has level restrictions in parties similar to here, except its handled with a script. If someone is below 20 levels, they will only gain exp in a party that is within 5 levels of them (a level 5 can group with a 10 to get exp, but if a level 15 joins in no one in the party will gain exp as long as the 5 and 10 or the level 15 stay in the same area)
At levels 20+ you have to be within at most 10 levels of your party (meaning a level 20, 25, and 30 can group together to get exp, but a level 20 grouped with a level 35 will result in both players not getting any exp as long as both players are in the same area)

The only problem with coded party limits is casual partying for tells, and events where party limits generally don't apply.
For example, I may be partied with several people, but not training/getting XP. Heck we may both be training, but in different areas. We may just be in town.
Being partied allows tells to go out without being public, but to a group of people. Yocan also send tells faster if the player is in your party, just click on their portrait.
Then there are events, which sometimes are spontaneous, and often break the party limit rules. Sometimes a 1st level may be partied with a 40th, I have seen it happen. This isn't a problem because it's an event.

Party difference coding while certainly removing a need for any of my DM's or myself to watch for this type of behaviour against my rules, and rules incidentily requested in part by players who felt miffed at players who went from 0-40 in 2 days , are more trouble than they are worth, and require code that inteferes with the normal XP grant system of biowares which is already flakey as is. Good idea, and thank you for the thought Gealcath, but thought of and dismissed by me months ago. Makz.
