Not really a huge deal, but it seems like waaay too many things are hostile. I was exploring some Svirfneblin cave and I died, because they were hostile. Svirfneblin aren't supposed to be some evil things that attack whatever comes near them, are they? In all D&D books I've read (wich amounts to about two), I've never read about an evil/hostile to everything it sees svirfneblin. Also, in the forest, the deers are hostile. Although I'm sure a lot of people kill them, their hostility is unecessary. 'Eh, not a huge thing, really, only something I noticed.

Well said Spathic . Starling, one thing you will learn if you spend the time in my world to do so, most things in it, I would comfortably say 99.8% have a reason, and a story behind them, and in the world for players to find, either in books or story from NPC's. Makz.

Svirfneblin, as a race and in general, are evil. They are also very protective of their territory (which you were on), for it contains their precious metals and gems. Not to mention the story behind Ranestadt... I always wondered though about the forest creatures, why are they hostile? It's a rare day when a deer jumps out of the woods, with a snarl on his face, looking to tear you to shreads. Deer, badgers, bats at least shouldn't be hostile. I understand bears, cougars, wolves. At least the cow isn't hostile. ;D

Svirfneblin, as a race and in general, are evil. Of all the races, the Svirfneblin are the most misunderstood. The general alignment of Svirfneblin is Neutral. Absolutely not Evil. That is the biggest misconception, that anything that lives in the underdark must be evil. It is true they are protective of their territory. But most of the time the protection they use is to go unnoticed. They avoid contact most of the time.

Nature needs to get back at us anyway...
Of course, the worst hostile is the DM hostile, when you go into the arcane plane to hunt, and realize... OOPS! Mack is there to lay down the law! God that was fun, and I haven't visited the plane ever since.
