I joined Fredian about 2 days ago and I have enjoyed playing on the server. I am glad that Makzimia has decided to dedicate part of his life to this server because he/she/it is doing a fantastic job.
Being new to the server I have strayed in to areas that will kill a level 1 character before they can slip over on the ice (nice touch), I was wondering if anyone has drawn a map of the world.
I do not believe there should be a map of the entire world as a) That is a project all to its self b) It would ruin the fun of exploring c) Talking to people to find areas helps role play and get a character known
What I was looking for was a rough map of the immediate vicinity to the start point (possibly about 5-6 blocks each way) and a very rough world map (no detail but an overview of where locations are, i.e. dessert, swamp, town etc).

PS. I have read the map stuff etc but that doesn't really help when you have just started and obviously below 21 level

Hi Ace - I share your opinion almost exactly in this reguard. Many people (Myself included) have made thier on personal detailed maps (via screen captures), however, I will not ever distribute mine - nor should others give out thieres. I do intend to make a generic map of the island that will not have any specifics, just a real rough overview - not disimilar to the maps you find on the inside covers of many fantasy books and the likes. Keep an eye here on the forums and sooner or later Ill get to it - maybe sooner now that you've brought it to the forefront

:DYAY!... I know Makz black-listed maps... but I agree, I need something to go off of so I can finish that darned Fredian Intro movie (I like things to be somewhat accurate). So Ace... you good at drawing? Want to make us a cool looking sketched map? hehehe... like the very non-accurate medieval maps of long ago. Makz - Working on the original music and voice-over still eh? -Lumix

Silentus I think you have captured my thoughts exactly with something like the maps on fantasy book covers. I used to have a great one of Scandinavia
Limux I am sorry but I can t draw to save my character - if I could I probably wouldn't do the job I do now (I always wanted to draw cartoons). I also have the disadvantage that I haven't spent enough time exploring yet.

Ace, The map thing will probably never happen, but look for my Ranger, Elith Reliner, in game. I often give directions and/or lead newer players to areas. Then I cut you loose & let you have some fun.

There still cannot be a drawn COMPLETE map, for a very good reason, the Island is not complete... however... if what I am about to embark on works out, it may get that way. I am not wanting players to have a map when they first start no matter what. Part of it being for exactly reasons Ace mentioned. Players are very lazy on a LOT of occasions, and a map will not help anyone anyway... what's it going to tell you? certainly not what is there, because I most definitely wouldn't allow that.
Currently ALL maps have map points at ALL transitions at the very least on above ground areas, particullarly in most used areas immediate to West Styne, a look at the minimap for West Styne for example will show you ALL buildings and ALL transitions to other areas, I know this is not commonly done on other worlds, and as a result people don't think to look for it on mine. The same is done for North Styne, and Inner Styne Castle... Styne Village, Whillem, speaking of main buildings map pointed.
I don't see the point of a map except for the immediate areas, and with nothing significant on it. For now.
And Lumix, I can do the voice over.. not the music for now however. I'll get on that in next day or two.
For now, forget maps.
Makz.
