King Wend/Makzimia should recruit new knights/paladins if only Karl and Mack are left. This could include him selecting players and requesting they RP a knight in his court 1 night a week and then creating a knight character assuming most players asked would not refuse a personal request from Makz.
To this end he can assign the knights person opinions and put the character into several players folders and different players RP the same knight different nights or days of the week.
I would also recommend that a thread for only the King and his court to make posts in, the threads should be summeries of what happened that day; i.e. ********************************** Imprisoned "J. Lo" for killing a chicken and refusing to replace the towns source of food (I know I have developed a chicken fetish, at least it isn't sexual). "J. Lo" resisted and I did a knock-out and put her in jail for 5 minutes, adjusted chaotic by 10 for resisting arrest and evil by 2 for stealing and then released her with a new iron skinning knife and told he to get her own food from now on.
"George" killed Derto and I had to knock out him to imprison him for 30 minutes, adjusted evil by 10 points for killing an unarmed begger and chaotic by 10 for resisting arrest.
No other incidents this night. ****************************

I have to go with:
1a 2a 3a 4b
I agree with Phoenix that the justice system should not be self-defeating. Knights should only be knighted by King Wend himself. Seems more appropriate.

Polls still open, keep voting on any issues Results of "poll" so far seem pretty decisive. Note, I will likely semi-close this topic soon if I dont see much new added. At that point I will put in the next topic "Punishment" 1. Who is the judge/jury?
6 …..a. The knights/enforcers
2 …..b. Individual justices appointed by King Wend…..c. (Other that I didnt mention)
2. Who enforces the laws?
7 …..a. Knights appointed by King Wend (all scenarios)
1 …..b. Deputy appointed by Justices (1b scenraio only)
0 …..c. (others I didnt think of)
3. How much leeway should the law enforcement have?
6 …..a. Full autonomy: Arrest & imprison without reservation (1a scenario only)
2 …..b. Restricted Autonomy: Arrest on suspicision, imprison on reasonable proof to Justice (1b scenario only)
0 …..c. Restricted Enforcement: Arrest & Imprison only on direct sight of crime (1a sceanrio)
0 …..d. (other that I didnt think of)
4. Alternative guilt determinations
0 …..a. Trial by combat alowed across the board
6 …..b. Trial by combat allowed only if approved by Knight (or Justice)
1 …..c. No trial by combatPublic Announcement Forums for punishments: Added to list of Game mechanics topics I pose to you the following new questions: 5. Forced Trial by combat? (If Knight approves TbC): …..a. All partys have to agree to it…..b. Parties need not agree to it - they have to fight if Knight decrees TbC.
6. Champions Allowed? (If Knight approves TbC)…..a. Champions cannot be used (fight yourself only)…..b. Champions can be used if all agree; name of champion must be stated before agreement…..c. Champions can be used if all agree; name of champion not stated before agreement---My Personal Take--- 5 a 6 a (note, I would like to move to 6c down the road, but again it adds more complexities)

I agree with Phoenix, if everyone is in agreement, a suitable champion would make things very interesting!

going again st the grain 5b 6d Champions can be used but must be named at time of tria...)
also the combat need not be PVP... we could set NPC opponents based on the severity of the crime... maybe a bit tougher but since systemicaly this is kinda like gravy or something added on at the end...

Trial by combat should be for incidents when the knight can not clearly establish guilt or innocence in a situation, as in he did not see the incident, this is not meant to be a way for character A to start a fight with character B in front of a knight to lure them into Trail by Combat to have a level 40 suddenly appear once Trial by Combat is allowed, but all systems can be manipulated in some way so should Trail by Combat be allowed and approved by the knight and substitution of a champion (historically used for defense of women, but we are in fantasy world) will eventually be maniuplated, just plan on making it a good RP session.
