It turns out that the prison system logs the total time that a person is incarcerated. It would subsequently be easier in game to track a persons criminal history based on the time they have served, instead of the instances of a crime (which would require a check on the forums or an honest player with a good memory.) I am NOT proposing that we scrap entry on the forums - that is for public record. The problem with this is that the reason for the time served is not shown, so a thief could be put to death the same as a serial killer. Fortuantely, due to our other polls, serial killers recieved the EXACT same punishments but were executed at the end. The same could work for Thieves (get normal 2nd offence thief punishment + execution if you exceeded a certain amount of time.) With our original concept of 5 murders gives you serial killer status it would break down like this:
.....Serial Killers:
..........Murder 1.....20min
..........Murder 2.....30min
..........Murder 3.....30min
..........Murder 4.....30min
..........Murder 5.....30min
..........Total.......140min
.....Career Thieves:
..........Theft 1......no jail time
..........Theft 2-15....10min each
..........Total.........140min
I pose to you the following questions (please answer all of them even if you are against the proposed Hardened criminal concept):
1. Which method should we use for servere punishment?
...a. Original Serial Killer concept (5th and each subsequent murder gets you the same punishment but with execution tacked on)
...b. New Hardened Criminal concept (x amount of jail time gets you same base punishment but with execution tacked on)
2. If adopted, how many minutes of imprisonment before your first execution (in Real Life minutes)?
3. If adopted, how many minutes of imprisonment before each subsequent execution (in Real Life minutes)?
--- My Personal Take ---
1 b
2 120 (5th RPK & every 2nd subsequent, 13th theft & every 6th subsequent)
3 60
If you find this confusing, look at this example:
Bob Theblatentbadguy's criminal record may look like this(using my 120 / 60 vote)
Serves 20 min....Caught murdering a person (1st offence)
........total 20, no execution
Serves 30 min....Caught murdering another person
........total 50, no execution
Serves 0 min....Caught stealing (first offence)
........total 50, no execution
Serves 60 min....Caught in double murder
........total 110, no execution
Serves 30 min....Caught murdiering again
........total 140 min served (=120+20) - Bob is executed for his crimes
Serves 30 min....for another murder
........total 170 min served (=120+50), no execution
Serves 10 min....Caught stealing again
........total 180 (=120+60) - Bob is executed for his crimes
Serves 90 min....Caught in a 3 vctim killing spree
........total 270 (=180+60+30) - Bob is executed again! (plus is carring another 30 minute balance with him)
These sound a bit harsh for theft, but remember that they only get prison time if convicted. Theft is much easier to do stealthily than murder and any decent thief shouldnt get caught this often.
