I've noticed that lag has really increased withen the last week. Fredian used to be a place that had little to no lag. Withen the last week it has seriously increased. Just wondering if there is a reason to this? Provider equipment changes etc?

I need to know a few things, player locations with any issues, did you check elsewhere for issues? have you checked your personal ping rates to web sites, doing a ping -t www.google.com for example... what rate do you get? are you getting drop outs? I personally get an average of around 26ms to most sites from here. No hardware has changed my end, the scripts recently updated by addicted are the only ones that could POSSIBLY effect the server, BUT, would be running all the time to cause it, and they do not, and even if they did DOUBT IT. On Monday, I personally had a MAJOR slow down in my web access, with ping drop outs, I did a call to cox, and shortly later, the problem was resolved. Now, NO-ONE can ping me, so, it's not even worth your while trying I ICMP block. However you can ping anywhere for yourself and see what happens. I do know that a LOT of new worms/virus's are out there, and I know of at least 1 player who told me he knows he had a worm virus that was slowing him down each time it activated itself. At the end of the day UDP totally sucks as a IP connection, but, traditionally we have not had issues of this amount. I would still start at your own end first and go from there, trust me when I say, NO-ONE is more on the ball about checking connectivity than me for my server, I pay a lot for my bandwidth. I'm based in San Luis Obispo, Ran a connection test on www.bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ and was at about 1.2 meg per second. Ran a ping test with google. Reply from ****: bytes=32 time<77ms TTL=235 Reply from ****: bytes=32 time<76ms TTL=235 Reply from ****: bytes=32 time<77ms TTL=235 Reply from ****: bytes=32 time<76ms TTL=235 With that said, I've seen a lot of other people talking about the lag as well, I don't *think* that it's on my side. If there is anything I can do to help, or any test you would like me to run, let me know.

Seems the problem isn't connection related then.

I found since the last week, lag has been horrible. Increase in lag actually can also lead to more crashes of NWN, e.g. getting a black screen after a transition and then not ebing able to move anymore, but you can still chat My lag experience is kind of like fighting a horde of monsters and then suddenly everything stops except for all creatures moving statically and then action again for a few secods, another stall etc. also, moving on the map and then getting a black wall is nothing new this week

i am with Dial up, there has been some lag, but not much differently from the broadband, im also in the UK it might not be the server.... it may be worst..... it may be Neverwinter nights, ive had some problems logging into some other servers, i sometimes get a lock up, but not often.
well this problem needs looking into on the bioware forums.

I too have been experiencing a lot of lag spikes... I can't provide you with any prime examples like the ping tests (internal problem), but I do run about 25-30 ms most of the time.

Yep, I have been receiving lag as well for the past week or so. Something funky is definately happening somewhere. I was just out killing deer in the Fredian forest last night and there would be a few spikes that would last about 20 to 30 seconds and stall everything in the area and then all of the sudden burst to catch up.
Looked kind of funny at times but got to be annoying a little. Dunno.
Just figured I would add my comment since I am not alone.

OK, all the descriptions I am hearing of your problems are UDP related, that means the packets over the internet... UDP is not a nice way of doing things because, if a packet fails to get to you, or from you, it is permanently lost, unlike TCP/IP which error corrects. That is most definitely connection related. And as you saw, at my end at least, that is not an issue... that being said, I have noticed certain sites getting slow in the last week to reach for me when web browsing, my normal use speed tests/pings are as normal though. The server doesn't cause this, and nothing has been added in that can cause it... so, the net has to be the culprit somewhere, as even a direct connect to me, has to hop across the net connections in various amounts depending on your locations. Fozrath seems to be the closest to me with an issue, but it still doesn't rule out an issue localised in say California. I am going to be chasing my provider again today, and see if they know of any ongoing issues. I am however ruling out the server, because, Cartoonic plays a lot, and in the past when we did have issues with the MOD, ie: DTS, and other bugs that were removed, he, and I, got lag locally on the LAN , so we know when something is not right server side. As always, for those more techinically inclined, on a time that you are getting alot of lag, it might be worthwhile to open up a command prompt and run: TRACERT fredian.game-host.org
This will fail on the last hop to IoF because Makz is blocking pings, but it will ping each hop along the way and give you a time for each - look for the big number. As alot of people are experiencing it, I would expect it to be closer to Makz side of the route than to your side... If you find results of a specific address / adresses that are suspect, it might be wise to post them here - information is ammunition after all.
Another command that might be usefull is: pathping fredian.game-host.org
This does almost the same thing, but takes longer because instead of just finding the route and times, it repeats each hop multiple times 100 by default I think) and gets an average. The data is laid out a little different though.

Facing this thing with some frustration again... I did a pathping, never tried it before, never needed to... to www.google.com, result was I did find lost packets near my end... So, I have then contacted cox back with that as ammunition, they have confirmed substantial *NOISE ON MY NODE* and are taking care of it, news at 11 ... so, it is very localised in nature anyway.
