Please note! on Tuesday morning at around 9am PST the server will be taken down for a CPU upgrade. Thanks to a generous donation from one of our long term players, and the ever generous wife I have, Fredian's main server is joining the 1MB cached HT world. I will be installing a 3.0GHZ HT 1MB cached P4 into the server. All going well, it should be up and running again within about 30 mins. If for some reason it upsets the HAL of the Windows XP pro, then it will be about 3 hrs as I do a full re-install of Windows XP and all it's necessary programs etc. All up under COMMON circumstances, ie: backups etc first, I would expect the server to be down 1 hour. Ok, here we go again. It didn't look secondhand, until I went to open it .... they are sly little bastards at fry's... anyway, I went to a different store altogether... and I have a 3.2 instead now, for not much more than what Fry's were charging me for the 3.0... and it most definitely IS a new boxed one. Going to take the server down again shortly for it to go in... hopefully with no issues this time Makz.

does not want to boot with this new CPU speed... beginning to wonder if the install of XP is to blame... or, if the motherboard is the issue now... sheez...

last effort, then I need to take the system to where I bought the CPU, I have the CMOS cleared, and removed the battery even for it now... all cards except video card... I have been building systems for years... never seen this except on a nerfed MB.. sorry folks, but the system will be down for most of the rest of the afternoon. I NEED to get this sorted out.

WELLLLLLLLL it's been ONE OF THOSE DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So much for no stress... yeah right...
Ok... bottom line, the motherboard was fried, overheated at some stage and when faced with a new CPU couldn't take it. $400.00 later, which THANKS TO THOSE 2 players, one in particular that donated $200.00 in the last 2 weeks, off laid half today's cost.
Fredian is up and going again, with a new 3.2GHZ P4 and a new foxconn 865 motherboard.

cripey and kaboom! Yeeooww... Remember that fuss I had with my machine awhile back? And the one before that? It was right around the upgrade to CEP. Well, there ya go thats computer hardware. Its like you got all the manuals out, the model numbers, what supports what, and you got it all lined up and you know its going to work... you take a DEEP breath... and push that button The fan starts... the hard drive heads start to whirl... and then...... BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! *cursing in the background*
