Can I just say that despite all these comments, the quality of Role playing is exceptional. I have become totally addicted to this server, at risk of losing a great amount of sleep.
So, all those who make this experience so rewarding, thank you. That includes the DM's who also contribute so much to the RP experience.

This is getting off topic, but I know what you mean. Since coming to Fredian, I have been going to bed about 1:30 - 2am and getting up at 6:30 regularly. Brings a whole new meaning to 'so good it hurts'
In any event, looking at the vote I think we can consider this topic closed. Seems to me that Makz general rules of appropriate ooc in talk stand in the general opinion and no stronger approach should be taken. This topis however was not in vain as hopefully it brought to the forefront of peoples minds that ooc should be used sparingly unless you know it is desired or is needed for RP reasons (rolling dice, finding RP direction, clarifications, etc...)

This topic evolved into something else entirely didn't it? :-)
The RP has been sweeeet, most enjoyable, thank you everyone for bringing your respective dramas and neuroses to the forefront! I hope I've been able to keep you all as entertained as you've been keeping me.... good thing the walls in my apartment aren't any thinner or the neighbours would be irate with my frequent bursts of laughter:-D
I have to chime in on the 'sleep deprived' theme... and add the whole 'oh yeah i forgot to eat again' spin on it:-) Some of you who RP with me frequently may have noticed me occasionally quickly type ooc 'omg got to eat NOW', that's because I'm starting to shake:-)
So, take it from everyone's big sister Hanah, in (paraphrased) Baldur's Gate II wisdom: "Just because your characters do not have to eat does not mean that YOU do not. We don't want to lose any dedicated players!"
Hanah .... apparently coffee isn't food, cartoonic told me so;-)

Ok Taylor, good point! I was guilty there as well...I'll keep OOC stuff to a minimum.
As for Shwabbas' point ....that is also a fair point too...
But Makz has set this server up not just for the die-hard RPers, but for the hack-and-slash lovers too...lets all try to remeber that.

how about just saying ooc things that you need to like ((afk)) or ((brb)) or something like that... i dont see any need to say ((what alignment are you)) ooc just ask ic

How exactly do you condense a persons personality into a single question in character like that? I mean what alignment are YOU? How do you determine that? alignment is abstraction... like asking about any other rules created abstract concept it's nigh impossible to really talk about in character....

Exactlly, if you want to get an idea of someones alignment ask them what they would do in a certian situation. Something like "if you saw a small child on the side of the road just outside town, would you help?" Other that getting a feel by questioning someone there is no way you can simply ask IC someone's alignment.
You could boil it down to: are you good or evil? do you follow the laws or not? But asking "are you lawful good" is not IC talk, no one would think of it like that...

"Simple fact is that frequently you roll play with people that are not in your party, and sometimes ooc is helpful to the whole group. It isnt quite safe to say 'well then just invite them into your party' because sometimes the people invovled are in different parties already and it will not allow you to merge unless you drop out of the other. "
I agree with that, limiting talk to purely RP wouldnt work, and remember this isnt supposed to reallly BE an RP server as I have seen several posts on. . . just there is alot of RP content. And to Phoenix: /t wont put anything in talk from party mode, Bio assumes you are sending a tell, /p=party though, and /s is shout which we dont need to know and /w is whisper
I personally think the whisper should be used more often since it isnt more widely heard(only within several feet), whispering would solve ooc chat nicely since it is only heard by those nearby, so asking them to take it to whisper would likely be a nifty solution as well. I'll see if I can find out what the quick-stroke for talk mode is. . .
I voted maybe because yes mean people would have difficulty communicating and I foresee many punishments for those who are new, or just forget, because most servers I know of havent done anything like that and no would mean then that it would stay the same, for example I saw a HUGE amount of ooc in Styne the other day, which Phoenix asked be kept to the forums(hurray Phoenix!) that I think was mildly excessive. .
