All of us to one extent or another have used the warped on Ferrus for training. I do have a little DM experience, (table top d&d for twenty some odd years), and to keep Fredian a living breathing place in my opinion something must change. The warped by now would have gotten wise to our tactics, brought more, hid underground, they have been a hunted people for a long time. How about this. No announcements by DM, no advance warning whatsoever, the warped should be suprise attacking West Styne, the castle, castille, whenever a DM saw people were gathered and vulnerable. Same goes for the drow in my opinion when the high king was giving out christmas presents the drow would have never let the chance to strike at the king and all pertinent citizens gathered in one room. Nate, cartoonic where were you? Players would not war against each other as much if a real war were shoved down their throats by an angry enemy ie the warped. Okay Ive ranted, feel better, Fredian shreds, love ya all, happy new year where ever you may be.

and never mind the horde of lowbies who would just be slaughtered enmass.... it's fine since they don't matter... if you thought people were complaining about uber spawns in styne dungeon 1 just wait till there are unhittables strolling around slaying them in one hit...

Problem with any sort of war situation of this sort being suggested, is it needs to be a multi-DM event. I was the only DM on at the time and as Merrick I couldn't be in two places at once the point is taken, and I am trying at the moment to get somethings done in the next couple of weeks along with Cartoonic who is making the underdark island of his. Ferrus is being abused, what I find REALLY amusing, is how many of you don't even know that there is more to that island. And of course some new areas have warped in them also... but hey.. what do I know ? I just make this stuff Makz.

Eesh! Good point from both of you! Perhaps instead the occasional refit of the Ferrus mines with either devestating nasties or perhaps none at all for periods of time?

Well, weak people die in wars... I also don't think he's talking about permanent changes, but unannounced DM events. So it's not like these uber creatures would be there for ever. Besides, it's likely a party would be formed quickly as soon as people caught wind of the unannounced event and could rasie said slaughtered people.

The point is it is absolutely no fun to be randomly killed walking through a "safe area" by creatures you have no real means of combating... It is great fun for those who are capable but for people who have only low-levels what can they do? log off and wait... not much fun...
I am not against a warped attacks scenario but attacking west styne is a bad idea...

When did a world such as this guarantee to be a safe place? Styne should be open to attack at anytime from any enemy, it is up to the guard and the citizens to defend it. A threat such as random attacks could be the catalyst to what Makzimia was talking about as far as forming some sort of self-government. I have been on 4 PW's and this world has the mildest xp penalty I have seen so I dont see why the big fuss over dying once or twice. On another server I spent time on, when the PC started overrunning the spawn sites, the DM's would take control of the monsters and start attacking in unexpected ways, attacking cities and normally safe areas...just to keep everyone on there toes. I would love to see all the above here. Just my two cents.

Lol Cartoonic sometimes likes to screw around with the players every once in a while (like moving the warped wizards/rogue/monks from cave 2 near the entrance for example).
Darn that Cartoonic! *Raises fist in the air*

i don't like the idea of having an event for "big dogs" (no one else can really have fun with a warped attack scenario) in an area meant for everyone and largely populated by people with no prayer of surviving a blow... attack styne proper but west styne really should be a quiet spot...
just trying to look out for the little guys ... anyway.

I have finally reached a level where I can beat adult dragon by myself (despite Bioware's rating system), as a result I am collecting dragon parts for weapons and other possible uses later on. And if Mak or Nat had dragons ambush me on my way out of the dragon's lair by dragons it would make sense both from RP and Hack & Slash points of view. I have not participated in training in Ferrus mines (although I mined there before), but I have died several times trying to get to the ore. Why not have warped creatures retaliate after those who train there think they are done training. When they are leaving the caves what should greet them, an above average group of warped beings who really aren't in the mood for talking. Having seen how fast they move I cannot imagine them cramming into a boat to go to another island, we are talking creatures that need high doses of thorizine, more action than planning. Although we are playing a fantasy game, retailiation attacks should have some logic behind them, whether it is by territory or a planned attack against appropriate level characters. Drow attacks would be more likely to kill high levels and capture low levels for slaves, females would be killed so procreation could not take place. And I would suggest that West Styne not be attacked by large forces unless a sufficient amount of characters are in place to provide a reasonable defense. Now fore warning an attack could work, DM shouts that wild and domestic animals near Styne Village are being driven mad, common citizens are seen locking themselves in thier homes out of fear because of strange noises coming down from the mountains. As adventureres arrive they see ogres, ogre mages and frost giants attacking the village as an anchient black dragon gives them directions. Silentus: I edited this message a tiny bit (deleted 3 words) as it gave some information that is not nessararily common knowlege. Please try to avoid publicly giving locations of specific crafting components. Thanks

The only thing I have to say about "Ferrus Training" is this..... Doesn't it say somewhere in the rules something or other about "camping" and "farming" of mobs being illegal? Your Annoying Neighborhood Shwabbaman

I think while most of the ferrus training is cheesy (what i have seen of it) i don't think it counts as farming or camping since you aren't waiting for the spawns but leaving and coming back for the spawns... unfortunately if you want to level (especially after you clear the sweet spot (levels 16-20ish)) you will have to do cheesy things (the 21st level encounter bug limits locals so...)...
its not like going Afk for a few hours in the spawn point for some easy kill creatures (6xp seems in significant but when you get it every 2 minutes while you work 8 hours....)... i think that (and non monster NPCs) is the reason for that rule... anyway...

Hmm....its true that lower level Pc's would be slaughtered en-mass during such an assault...but higher level characters would likely be around to aid them anyways, so whats the fuss? There's no laws saying that low levels characters even have to participate....they can just run away. Isnt that just like real life? Lets stop crying over this and move on!
The other point about training above level 20 is a good one....most monsters only give a puny amount of xp when kiiled by a high level char on his own...thus enter the poor badger.....surely this is hindering Rp advancement of new players that are power levelling their characters by being the said badger?
I understand the need for players to increase their characters abilities...but new players are coming into the server, getting to level 30 by the drop of a hat and running around PKing everyone 'because they are bored'. Sheesh...when will it end?

As Spathic pointed out, the rule concerning farming was in fact put in place to cover NPC's. In the early days of Fredian, certain PC's went around killing NPC's repeatedly, hence the rule, and why really nasty stats on NPC's show up as easy Makz.
