Ok this gold thing is getting out of hand right. OK then what King in his right mind would let his people get so rich without reaching his hand in your pocket. How about a tax you pay depending on your class. And no I do not mean character class. I mean if you have lots of gold expect to pay lots of taxes. Plus that it would get these pesky paladins out of my hair and give them something to do..hahaha Sign Getty the Gnome

Property taxes for those who get homes and businesses, yes. But for those who wander around with no homes, it would be very hard ICly to determine how much gold they have short of having a big, brawny guy hold them down while searching their bags and pockets.

And what is wrong big guy holds you and little one takes the gold. hehehe. with that if you walk around with your pockets full of gold and your bank account so full it is going to break the bank if you leave the king will know i mean come on who do you think makes the gold.
Mybe someother taxes can be charged to all these people that seem to have no home poor dears all that gold and no place to spend it on. The King needs his share to pay gaurds and others. So a road tax on occation and an annual tax of ?000 gold to be collected at random times.(When the town is full of people) hehehe come on we need the big man to take a share of all this gold that is fling around like crazy. I know everyone is tired of hearing.Gold means nothing to me. It will if the King has it all.... In what medevil time did you ever see so many rich people walking around everywhere with no poor ones.

OK, so this brings up the question of housing. Taxes are usually on property and land. Most of the Fredians are rich landless homeless people. So I'm not paying taxes for the privlage to sleep on the dirt outside.
I know it's possible to get a real house after you have put time and effort into the server, but what about apartments? Maybe change the inn so the rooms are rentable for extended periods, like a week or 2 at a time. Now I might be willing to pay taxes on that...
What about about permanent housing for more people? I don't want to go off on a tangent if it ain't gonna happen.

Anyone that is a LITTLE observant, would know you can actually rent a room nightly in at least 2 establishments, that have 5 rooms each, you get a key, you stay and when you leave, you lose the key.

I dont think its a good idea but for RP value. But those with houses have money so taxes will not effect them. Those who dont will get very upset for paying taxes on the dirt they sleep in. This will just add more things for Makz to do with no real benifit to the world.

IMO If money has lost value or there is too much the answer is simple raise all the prices and buy the items for less make it near impossible to make a profit and everything uber expensive its how it works too much gold means that you arent charging enough.
I know this will make many of the poorer poorer but then again people are just giving money away i mean really people look at the prices in Ranenstadt and shrug and buy what ever they like it isnt even that expensive any more.
Ok that being said taxes may or may not work so good luck with that

Taxes. Yes indeed Taxes are a good thing. Let start with the fact that banks in D&D don't let you save money for free. In D&D (based on medieval times) banks charge you a fee for holding your money. Typicially it was customary for a bank (this should apply to guilds as well) to charge a 10% fee for using their services. On top of that, bank security was a joke. Perhaps a d20 roll with the result of 1 being a loss of half your money in the bank everytime you access the account.
Oh and as for taxes, love them. Bring them on, I need something to "pregnant dog" about IC.

Taxes (tithes) are a great idea - do I think we should institue them? No.
Simple reason here is that it is alot of manual work that I canot see an easy way to manage for Makz and the crew. If a general taxation perentage is given though, my characters will donate of thier own volition.
Banking fees - Again great idea I think, I would be for haveing a negetive interest fee instead of a positive one. I think this is do-able and perhaps should be considered. (Then again, it might not be popular enough to bother with)

Ok I think everyone has taken this wrong. This would be just a RP thing ok. I was just thinking in terms of RP Taxes are real, always have been, throw it into the game every once and a while. The guards are sent a tell to collect the taxes for the King. Each gaurd has to go get a certain amount of gold depening on there district. Sence when does a King care if you do not have a house boho go build one or take one that is not being used. "Give me your Tax money fools!" he would cry... If you want water in the towns to drink gaurds to protect your backs from the creatures just waiting to get inside the city walls so on ansd so forth. I do like the idea of the bank chargeing you money. Thanks for the input I like that idea allot, as per D&D 2nd ed. rules. Love it. This is the type of replies I wanted to hear not something about houses and where you lay your head. Come on people play a little how long has you character been here on the island. Would your character not have claimed one the the empty houses that are everywhere. Or you could say that you have tent like house in the woods, or you are building your house. If you character still is sleeping on the ground after being in this world for over a month you are not the brightest of characters are you. Law on taxes in the feudal system if you live in the lands that are being taxed and you are being propected by those lands YOU PAY TAXES.. This is not something I want the DMs to really have to worry about or anything it is just one of those things if the DM thinks of it he could always say Tax time and send a Tell this means the Knights of the land go get the taxes from the people. The knights being the best people to do this due to lack of brave enough tax collectors to collect from some other people that dont want to pay taxes... I justed wanted to add a little flavor and think of the RP to come from this expecally if the taxes are really high. Hehehe

Taxes are, yes, cumbersome to enforce... if the knights feel they want to play RP at taxing players, as long as they feel the water out.. I am fine with that. I actually thought on the idea of a negative interest rate, but then no one would bank instead I am just going to make interest rate 0%. Makz. Actually, I would still bank. The bank can hold 9 mil, I can only hold 1 mil on me. Just a thought. Glad you change it to 0 at least though (People are probably sick of me supporting all the HCR stuff anyway ) )
