Now I am feeling really embarrased, I took this time to read about my fairly new motherboard.
I learned it has a built in LAN/Ethernet connection.
I ordered a LAN/Ethernet card to go with my DSL modem because I learned my new motherboard requires Windows 2000 or XP to operate the USB 2.0 ports properly. I cancelled my DSL because MSN wanted to charge me $1.50 an hour while I waited for the LAN/Ethernet card (that I just learned I didn't need) and now I must wait to have DSL reconnected because MSN and the phone company reconfigured the way they are doing new DSL accounts and MSN could not undo my request to cancel the DSL cancellation request.
Knowing that if I had taken the time to learn more about my new motherboard I could of avoided going back to dial-up modem, and all the darn problems dial-up can have.

you are gonna need service pack 1 for windows xp to run those usb 2.0 ports.

You may also have to reinstall the drivers for the USB2.0 ports after SP1. There's always role playing which usually isn't lag sensitive.

I made it on 3 times;
1st time: I kept repeating walking from point a to point b, major bummer; watch Jurassic Park trilogy
2nd time: The only good thing about sleep disorders is you aren't always up at the same times and I got on for several hours and was actually the only one on for a little while, worked on tanning and making grandmaster weaponsmith (91 points to go, is it all +3 greatswords, I hope not).
3rd time: Actually got a good connection today and was on while I had a load on laundry going, but proboards19 wouldn't let me on before I went to play, at least it is free, knowing it is free makes it tolerable.
I'll probably take a nap before returning to Fredian after I finish the catching up on post (they happen so fast sometimes).

Makz is working on updating weapons now, I don't he has made it to greatswords yet. He's been doing about a weapon or two a day at this rate he'll be done soon...
Forgot about working on skills, dial up is kosher for that.

I find that when I have a decent connection I am ok as long as there aren't lots of placeables or characters around (npc or player).
It's no where near as bad as before I got the new motherboard and video card. When I had dial-up with my old system I was lucky if I got 0.3 FPS when around lots of placables or in large encounters.
I'm not going to try dragon hunting yet, but I am basing what I do on how my connection reacts, badgers, dear, bears and admantine collection went OK. Now to try myrkandite and diamonds.
I found what weapon comes after +3 great axes, I just might finish off weaponsmithing before Wednesday.
