I added this poll just to see if people really care. If so, it is obviously in the DM's power to enforce, I just thought it might merit some feedback from all of us

Yep good idea, apathy needs to be cut through on these sorts of things though Makz.

well I am never one to sit by and not have a say ;D Right Druga? hmmm maybe add a question asking if they would like to see both. That way its up to the DM what they want to do for their event but having the option for sign up so people can plan on being there. not everyone loiters around in the server all day and night to be able to catch these on the fly events So a mix would be best.

Sorry Wingstiker, I dont know any way to modify Polls after their initial creation, otherwise I would add it. Obviously DMs can change the rules any time they need to anyway. Some events lend themselves fine to large groups (Styne Race for example), while others are much better for small groups. the larger the group, the less need for a pre-signup. Anyway, good thought.

I cannot even modify polls that is deliberate to make them fair I guess. Makz.

At one time, I had an astounding bit of trouble getting a little party together for an event. My first two events had about 4-5 people, which I thought was "great" turnout, but I had to court them pretty hard. Some of my last ones really had a lot of traffic... 8... ? more? I know there was a hoard on the couple's tale, and the trial didn't look small by any means either.
It would be a shame to actually have to cap an event. The mere notion of it suggests that turnout is going very well, which is a good thing.
I have found monster invasion and my races can usually have a motherload of players and it doesn't matter, but for the RP types things could get out of hand. People don't read, or they are all talking at once (and thus not reading), and somehow or another they get lost from the group or the more experienced players won't wait around for the newer ones, and so on and so forth.
I suppose if I were to cap an event, it would be signups get first slots, and if one doesn't show, walk-ins can take their place, even if a sign-up logs in late after its started (what else can you do?). I don't know though... that is a chilly thought. I'm more of an inclusion philosophy than an exclusion one. I think large groups can work but the players must try harder at remaining organized. I've seen small groups fall apart too (re: Seroph and Calneman) =-)
I think the deep question is, how much would signups remedy? Can an alternative way of running large groups be more effective than signups (and caps hence exclusion)? I don't know the answers to these. I'll have to think about it carefully for awhile.

good point addicted. I am not saying that it will fix everything, or that your events don’t have to include as many people as you want. I just think once and awhile a story event run just for what ever number you are comfortable with would be good. With as many people now on the server i don’t think you could run a small event with out someone running in to take part. On the other hand with the numbers a general call out would bring the masses to you. LOL now that would be funny. Would like to see the RolePlayers try and talk there way through that mess. With a Pw I am not sure if you really can do anything else besides the races or some type of scavenger hunt where the numbers wouldn’t matter. Unless you choose the small group you look in on in some far distant area of Fredian to run your event. There will always be those upset that they couldn’t take part or missed it once again (they just signed off hehe) I guess just having the DM's popping in now and than to interact with some players on some small scale would be best ( already being done ;D) We are a melting pot of player types with no one of them being any better than the rest in my opinion and you cant please them all, all of the time. Just forget I brought it up ;D all is cool in the land of Fredian

It seems the consensus is on sign-up for preferred placement, but not for required placement.
