I just wanted to thank everyone for their patience last night at the council in the castle. I was not well last night and did not realise how slow I was until some considerable time had elapsed, and in fact did not get out of bed until after 8 which anyone will tell you is late for me . As you are aware if you were present a democratic vote was had, naturally some abstained due to the fact they did not know the candidates, being new to our world. Frost Farstrider was appointed the roll of Viceroy of Styne, this royal appointment is done with the mind to put in place a person to oversee upkeeping of the rules of Fredian in the most part, and to run a local governing system in a way that is complimentary to the populace needs. It was pointed out to me last night, although I already knew , that democracy did not exist until the mid 18th century, however... this is not then, and a lot of players have very strong views on certain aspects, and I felt it necessary to at least give those who did know the oppurtunity to cast votes, it is worth noting that two candidates had equal votes but one abstained from standing at the end, which was Vugor. The main purpose, whether you knew any at all of whom were present, was that you would have a chance to know who is a long term player and or has position, this will I hope help with RP and approaching subjects with some of them. I tried my best to tell the tale I know so well in my head, and I hope that Silentus is able to make something concrete out of my sparse speech last night, as he of all people is at least somewhat familiar with my stories. Thanks to all again, and I hope you will enjoy Fredian more as all this is taken fully to where it is heading. Makz.

One thing I would like to add - There were alot of complaints last night about having to be there in council with the High King. Many were IC - that is GREAT! I commend those. Many characters would find this as an intrusion. However there a number that were complaining OOC. Im sorry, but I have a porblem with that.
I have been here for about 4 months or so now. A short time, but long for this young world. Ive seen some real good policy put in place and have repeatedly commended those involved. In that time this is the first event that had mandatory attendance. While I would generally be against this, as this was a rare and special case, I had no problem (I must admit I was going to attend anyway, but reguardless...). My complaint is players that have issues with the DMing staffs choice and bring it up in real time. If you have issues, bring them here (public forums or PM. Further, if you dont get an answer you like, you have a few options: 1. Start a poll here - anyone can make one, and Im telling you people, this DMing staff pays attention. there are a few things they will not budge on, but they entertain A WHOLE BLODDY LOT that our community wishes. 2. Stop grumbling and just play (or in this RARE instance skip playing for 3 hours - you had the option of logging off) 3. Go someplace else - I do not want people to feel unwelcome here ever, but if your issue is so problematic to you but not the rest of us and you have tried to talk to our DMing staff here and they wont budge - perhaps you should find a world that fits you better instead of causing dissent among this community.
Please feel free to approach Vugor at wil with anything RP (freindly or not).

Well I must admit I dislike the event... and I walk out for that reason... I understand the technical problems that come with quest like that...
I also though that there was no need for such a meeting...
I understand the dm thinks that the rule are not being implimented by the new people but that had a lot to do with the fact that most people don't come to the board and therefore don't know the rules...
I think that a system like the jornal entry of "the rules" had a chance to work without having players policing other players...
If this only goes has far has the players saying... please stop doing that let me remind you the rules are...
That is fine but we have to remenber this is a game and constant reminding ("your are not roleplying properly") can drain all the fun out of there.
I am more for a "reward" kindda aproach than a "Punish" aproach...
I mean get your dm to walk around and see who is roleplaying...(not just organize quest) and if they are just zap then with xp...
Encourage people to have these conversation in the open... (cause let's face it party and tell is very often use as ooc)... If you are against the ooc on these chanels(or at least in party cause dm have fast access)(put it in the rule and explain the "why" of it...)(most players if they understand Why will do it...(I say most players)
If they are behaviours you dislike... For exemple leaving unwanted item on the ground... make it a rule... Cause right now there is a Don't switch equipment from char to char... but no, "don't leave meat on the ground" rule...
Anyway... My char has always been an equalizer so if the lands is in chaos she will try to bring order to it, but if the land has order she will....but I know the rules just don't like the system... :-)

Hey everybody I just wanted to apologize for not being at the meeting. Unfortunately, I haven't yet figured out a way to make money grow on trees, so I still have this job thing. *sigh* ............HEY WAIT!! If I plant dollar bills and water them with Super Grow(tm).......I'll have soggy, dirty dollar bills. Dangit, back to the drawing board!

I don't even think it's like that... The position of Viceroy is not The DM's Enforcer and his Goon squad... It's simply a logical IC move. An Area as large as styne with a long dead king and no one steps up to replace him? THats simply rediculous.
Instead of just crowning an NPC and giving him the same stupid dialog over and over, we now have a fully interactive ruler figure.
Most of the players here will follow the rules because that is the thing to do... the players that we want to keep on this server are the ones that do not need to be reminded of the rules...
Thie viceroy and council are completely IC and Act only IC...
((i'm all disjointed here because it's too early....))

I like the reward idea to zap alittle extra xp, for consistant rping, maybe only once in a while... I dunno More comments and ideas! (Maybe its time for a comment and idea forum?) I would like to see what I have seen on other PWs, you go to a sublevel where you have rules and comments before entering the game. Have 1 sign and a portal.... Sign says something very simple explaining that this PW is very different then most, its about building a community, and take time in building you PC, explain that what you say is the voice of your PC, also on the sign incourage people to join the forums, also add the very basic rules keep it very simplewhen your talking you are the voice of your PC. Ect...
Here is a tale, the first time I logged on here this was my third NWNPW, and the other 2 I tried basically well, they sucked. One, had 15 people listed and not one could be found, just a fast emptiness with so many rules and portals, to other portals, into a town I couldn't find my way out of because it was way too large.... The second one had about 30 people, and agina many portals, and all converstation was very blah, and kill this kill that, didn't see much in the line of roleplaying.... and it seemed to be a hack slash kill all, PvP not my kinda world. Then I came here, there first PC I made was a Paladin and I made my way into the mines, and met a very evil looking fellow, who offered me aid after I asked for it. He wore a skull mask and seemed to have magic, and I said "Hey are you a Palemaster?" and he responded that better be OOC! And I roleplayed in the past so I could figure out what OOC ment (out of character) and thats when I realized that there was someone roleplaying and as I played more everyone one seemd to talk as if there where there PC.

THANK YOU!!!!!!! someone got it thank goodness!. I was worried, and with me being off mostly yesterday with the one main day I give myself off I come here and see the mice were playing while the cat was away. ((i'm all disjointed here because it's too early....)) The Viceroyal position is purely for RP and not RP policing, the area of influence also of the Viceroy is Styne area and it's immediate areas, ie: Lower Fredian Forest, West Styne, North Styne, Styne Village, Inner Styne Castle, East Styne and woods, Kings Forest & Swamp. The Viceroy has been charged to have his law enforcers purely there to handle complaints and only one rule of sorts that I want people to think on, don't talk OOC in normal talk standing around, if you want to talk OOC and not bother with tacking that on, simply use party chat. I normally have party chat off personally as DM now simply because it spams my chat window and with so MANY players on most of the time wanting my help answers or attention it makes it easier for me to keep up with you all If you can remember that simple request from me, follow the very few rules I do have in place, all will be fine. As for an entry sublevel with rules etc, even that is no guarantee players will read it, in my experience the way I have done things and the fact that I pay attention to all players that survive past a couple of levels and then days on my world means they usually are going to either a: have been to the forums or b: been told directly or indirectly in a shout about them and then go. I will direct my other DM's to keep an eye on players for RP rewards in the future also, but you must realise that a lot of the time we do not actually follow you around you know more likely you will get that XP reward in RPing when events are held. More will always be on, timing sometimes is not good for us to make them constant, the other good thing with a permanent IC PC as Viceroy is he will have the oppurtunity to let us know who is doing good IC RP. I am aware of most things that go on as I have my ways but the things I do miss, do need to come to my notice so that I can deal with and or reward. There was a distinct need for that council meeting a: everyone now knows Merrick Wend, and as I said at the meeting that was remiss of me, the older regulars knew him and even had campfire stories with him. So that was done, it also brought some of you into the story more of Styne and Fredian more. I made Fredian to be a place where RP could happen I never have and never will enforce, I merely ask courtesy to those that want to as always. I try the best I can to give balance to Fredian, and I am constantly working on that as needed. Thanks, Makz.

ok so if the position of viceroy is purely roleplay....
You won't mind if a rebellion happens...or if a group of people form some kind of allinace...
I mean what is policing without illegal activies...
On this subject! That would be a pretty nice add in...
Some illegal skills or quests...

I just want to add my two cents....I believe that the whole process of calling the mandatory meeting and electing the Viceroy and council was an excellent idea, especially from a RP standpoint. The move I believe added some structure to a pretty wide-open world, gave some of the local surroundings and happenings some sort of form and shape. Now there are officials that the people can directly speak with about IC characters issues and expect to get an answer or solution or alternative. It gives the PC's a common topic of discussion, and there was even talk of an alliance to oppose the Viceroy and council, which was even better from a RP standpoint. The things is, there should be something, a common thread or story that is sponsored by the DM that involves all the land in some form or another, it just adds cohesiveness to everything, instead of everybody running around in a thousand directions caught up in their own thing. This doesnt really seem to affect those who are into the whole hack/slash thing, as I see this move has put no restrictions on them. This can also open up the RP possibilities now, as far getting quests and stuff together center around the happenings in town.
One last thing I saw on a server I played on that would bring this whole Drow thing alive, was that when it became dark outside, the drow would spawn in random areas around the outlying perimeter of the city, first a little distance away, then ever closer to the main city walls. It made the threat real, made people party up at night to go venturing and made them find alternative routes to their destinations. It added a whole new aura and mystique to the game that a lot of people really enjoyed. That all I have for now

You think that the whole thing was a good thing & I agree but to be totally honest I stumbled into it (I hadn't checked the Forums that day, me bad) & low & behold MY Xavier is called as a canidate for the Viceroy position! I almost swallowed my gum! ;D Mak you should really warn someone of a shock like that! I'd hate to croak online & in character.... Thanks for the inclusion though. I knew I wouldn't get it (To many long-term characters were in the list) & Xavier always plays it close to the vest (although he does from time to time get generous(sp) urges as those that found him in those moods know). Honestly a Bounty Hunter & Jeweler wouldn't have made a good Viceroy anyhow. Not his style... Well there's my three & half cents worth (inflation don't ya know).
