Hmph. This is a gripe, and Im sure some other people will want to comment on this, so Im posting it here.
This server is one of the best around IMO, but maybe us as players should take note of the following points:
IC behaviour, DOES NOT have to mean that the player behind the character FEELS THE SAME WAY. I have seen several instances where one players IC behaviour has annoyed another player OOC. I can understand this if this player is really being an ass and breaking server rules etc, but if it was generally an IC thing, why moan about OOC?
OOC behaviour with the (()) or in tells/ p-chat, is pretty straight forward, and if ppl are using this to insult each other with, then maybe they should get a room, or life.
I DONT have a problem with people trying to resolve an argument over ooc chat, but i think ppl take things far too seriously here in regards to IC..remember its IN CHARACTER and does not (usually) mean the player agrees with his chars. way of thinking...he/she's Role Playing.
Hell, i admit, a few months ago, I had troubles with this...i had to take a step back and realise that maybe the people behind the computers are only playing their role...not trying to make my life difficult. Lets all cut each other some slack and have some fun here!

Amen
We have a lovely reality rule in my LARPs...it is called the 24 hour rule. If something IC gets ugly enough to be bleeding over, any person can at any time and without prejudice or question call for the 24 hour rule. There is no discussion of whatever set it off for 24 hours...not IC and not OOC...everyone just steps back.
You will notice that if I am getting testy about things from an OOC perspective, I generally just log and chill out.
We are all people behind our computer screens. And like any other game, people can get worked up (anyone else remember any of the great sports riots of the 80's?). Best to just step off the server and mellow out.

Enjoy everyone and if you have a problem with one of my characters in the game if you think something just didnt go down right PM me in the game and I will try to see what I can do to fix the problem or maybe I could explain to you OOC in tells what is going on and why something just happened. That is if I know .

Only problem is MOST people that attend the forums are the more responsible / understanding RPers. Most of us understand the difference and can deal with it pretty well. Most of us also understand when things are getting a little to close to home and when we need to step back.
Personally, I only get pissed when somone is a jerk to me ooc, period. Frequently when someone is being a jerk to my character IC, I will deliberatly send a couple tells to the player withn a friendly tone of encouragement, just to make it clear that I am taking no offence, despite what my character may be doing.
As long as you word it very carefully (so it is not taken as sacrasm or slighting the other player) that is a very effective way to keep player relations pleasant, even with players who havnt figured out how to separted themselves from thier characers.

Are you trying to tell me Fredian isn't real and my life there is only imaginary; how dare you try to ruin my fantasy ;D When my evil characters need to blow off a little steam for me, I usually head for the school or the mayor's house and let off the steam in semi-private accomodations. I know Holan respawns in the temple and suspect the others do as well As far as people being rude OOC, ask them if they read the rules and visited this forum, then move away from and if they follow tell them you won't interact with them anymore until they can honestly say they have read the rules and the forums.

I can only say one thing on this topic. This is a game, why people take things so literally is beyond me. I mean if another character wants to vent on me fine. I don't really care, as long as I deserve it. However, it should really be kept IC. Now if they start calling me names and such OOC, I will usually try to passify them or not deal with them at all, and if they try to kill me for that then I think they should take another look at the rules, and then have their character put in jail for the appropriate amount of time. Besides, if someone wants to be a jerk OOC and then kill whoever they were having the argument with, isn't that breaking the rules?

If someone kills another player for ooc reasons, that is against the rules and that's when DM intervention comes into play. Knights can also enforce the first offense penalty that is stated in the rules and send the offender(s) off to max security prison for 10 minutes. Bottom line, don't take IC stuff personally OOC. If you get angry for IC things another character did, don't start harassing the player. It's only a game after all. And you don't want an angry DM on your hands

I like to OOC a lot. Cutting up a bunch of monsters and watching them explode, for all my sophistication (or lack thereof), still does it for me. I politely try to steer clear of RPrs when I see them when I am doing my OOC thing. It is rude to interrupt someone else's session. But if you talk with me, sometimes I'll flat out tell you: I'm not in character right now, sorry. and then run along. I think for people who don't roleplay very much, this is just as important as some of the IC guidelines being provided here. Telling someone that there isn't a story behind your curtain prevents them from wasting their time and it also prevents communications from opening -- not even on the same page to begin with -- that will most likely take a couple of players down an awful road. Having said this, its important to educate our OOC fans that there is a thing called RP, and a lot of creative vampires are running around doing it, and they need to send the proper signals if they arn't going to do the IC methods. Fredian is a very large world, but conflicts can still happen. I just hope that both groups can share the same sky.
