Travis, Number 1 law of lag, with a server that is not normally laggy, for MOST people, and I personally BTW get to see if there is lag first hand, because, the server is here ... check what is going on around you, if nothing heavy ie: lot's of magic effects etc, lot's of fighting... next step, check you are not running ANYTHING other than NWN, this includes chat programs etc... All of that being a none issue, then check your connection. Trust me, the server and it's connection get my constant attention, and tier 3 support from Cox cable. At peak use recently ie: 46 players on, CPU usage average was 85%-97% with around 6-10% kernel hit, remaining RAM for use around 1.6GBytes, and a flow of around 110kb/sec up the 276kb uplink and about 85kb/sec coming in the 3.5MB/sec downlink.. all VERY healthy.

Another thing to consider with lag is the distinct possibility that something else along youre path to the server is slow... be that something at Makz's ISP that is effecting everyone, somehting at your ISP that effects only you, or something else between... When I experience significant lag, I usually start by asking others I know if they are having similar issues. If they are not - its time to look for stray services running or do a good old reboot. If others are having the problem, then it is likely out of your control and will be with Makz' ISP or the server itself. It that case though, there is little you can do about it short of mentioning it to Makz if hes around and seeing if its at the server. If Makz says the servers not lagging, your box and the route between it and the server are the only other options. Gotta love the internet...

Just a side note about what silentus said about other things running in the back ground and lag. I found it a problem then found a little program called EnditAll, freeware. Wacks anything not protected and you protect what you want. Works great I run it just before i log on.
