One option that has yet to be mentioned for this issue is DM quests. A number of Fredian's DMs have ongoing stories that are appropriate for all levels of characters... because the DMs actively tailor their scenarios to the party. I've always, always been pleased by the mix of RP and combat provided in these stories. In my experience it's easy for people to be incorporated into these stories to the level they desire, and I would encourage any and all to get involved if they're interested.
<plug> There's a fairly unscrupulous fellow running around, goes by name of Kyaasord... I'm sure if you put your ear to the ground, someone can provide Ameng and Elith with a little backstory on him. </plug>

EDIT: By and large DM run stories appear to be exempt to party level restrictions, although if this is not the case someone please correct me!#nosmileys#nosmileys

As the DMs will tell you, their events are not for XP. Sure you get some, but if your trying to level, that's not an option for most. <-- Always has too much fun, and never cared about the XP for a DM event. More DM events!!! Also, many quests do have level limits, but are broad in range. The 'on the spot' events are usually, whoever is standing around, and not really level limited.

Heh, as many "events" I have been in with Mack, I'll tell you, the time I could have spent training for the HOURS of RP I dump in I would have my Dragon-char done my now, which would be my 3rd level 40 instead of being in the process of my second build which is level 33 at the moment, LOL.
But it's fun, I will never take leveling over fun unless my life is threatened and I need to gain some firepower.

Where to level might be inappropriate for asking DMs on the dm-channel in-game (because you become dependent on them for information as a substitute for exploring or socializing with other players to get your information), but posting in the forums or asking your fellow players sounds alright. To show you all how outdated I am, I preferred Ferrus Island on level 17... My super-secret PC, a bit more recent, did it at the mysterious underground castle when that area was popular. Now? Hmm, hard to say but intuitively it is probably below ground. Fredian is a classic dungeon crawl in many ways. I don't think there is much stuff on the surface to accommodate a level 17 player unless you had some really fancy moves in Alvearia... Quests? Check your journal and see if you have at least 23ish in there... give or take a quest depending on your ability to do it (Reman's would be too hard) and your class (might not be able to do Trent's if not a rogue)... If you count 10 or something, you're way under-par.

It sounds the same to me, they would just be dependant on forums. Besides, it's an opportunity to RP the exchange of information out. 17th and ferrus... HAHAHAHAHAHA, try that now.

Good luck in that "mysterious castle", when you're a Ranger wearing even the best ATS leather or hide w/ buffs. You'd be amazed at how fast you'll die there.
Thanks to all of you for your thoughts & time, My questions on this subject end here, Jorthain

Speaking of this subject.... Lumix being a level 23 pure Bard... *ahem* is more like being a level 8 fighter. So when faced with the auto-spawning 20+ level monsters... well, you get the point. I feel the gap... everything I can barely kill, I get very little XP. The rest just use me as an organ doner or a lawn ornament. *sigh* So are the quests the only way a Bard can get to 40? ... *pauses and thinks*... has anyone on Fredian ever had a Bard over 23? *chuckles* Hmm... I guess no-one can relate to the "Bards struggle" eh? Any idea's though? -Lumix "Look, I found all these free swords... They were in my spleen" -Elan (Order of the Stick)

Jorthain, you would be surprised what you can do with any character when you are equiped JUST to fight certian monsters.
Lumix, I understand your problems, though I have not faced them yet. Rogues have similar problems with everything being undead or a golem, aka immune to sneak attacks. Heck even some of the warped are getting that immunity *glares at DMs*. A rogue w/o sneak attack is very similar to a bard in combat prowess.
Actually, this may be a good time to bring this up. There needs to be a mid-high level encounter for rogues and bards. I may not have explored 100% of the isle, but I am hard pressed to come up with a place for them to train. The recent upgrades to the warped make it hard there too. There should be a place where there are monsters that are, say immune to crit, but not sneak attack.

Phoenix, I understand your point, but I prefer to RP my ranger very pure (and he loses a lot by wearing med or heavy). A fighter would be a whole different story.
Lumix, The answer is that the three of us start playing together more. Parwith & I enjoyed it when we were together for that Ne'er the twain shall meet thing... By the way where's the song for that?
Thanks again to all of you, we'll figure it out for ourselves. Jorthain

phoenix being a recent luvee for for rogues and bards i disagree with the fact there is a need for them anywhere, at present both my barbarian and rogue are the same level and they can both train in the same place doing equally aswell, although my rouge does it much quicker.
anyway lumix up above you mentioned a level 23 bard being equal to a fighter of lower level....
wrong i had a lvl 12 PVP fighter vs a lvl 12 PVP bard, with stoneskin and two bladed sword it wupped I disagree along with all its other buffs and taunt bards can be pretty fierce in close combat, you just need to get the right build
Taylor says ; there is no ultimate build we all have our weaknesses.
