Hey all, just started playing. Thought I'd say hi.
I do have a question though: are the monsters as difficult as they should be, or are some disproportionately powerful. I ask only because I was playing as a Sorceror and hit a zombie twice with Ray of Frost (did 8 damage I think). Didn't even faze the zombie, though, and he walked up to me, hit me once and killed me in one hit. I didn't think zombies were that...dangerous, but maybe I'm wrong.
Anyway, great PW. So far the only one that's kept my interest. Very well designed.

Ah yes, the "Ray of Frost"... *chuckles* I always find it good for RP, there's nothing like zapping someone in the arse to get their attention. Also, if you target a door the beam will go long enough for you and your mates to practice your limbo skills. ;D Anywho, welcome to the Island and I hope to run into you sometime in-game. My character is a Bard so he knows how you feel when you die in one hit Cheers, Lumix

The ray...
reminds me of my fledling days as a mage... Used to get all excited over the rod of frost...
It'll get easier. If you know where to hunt... But really, RP is nice about here, if you encounter Ahlin, beware for a trip..

Ummm, I dont often play casters, but I was under the belief that cold of any kind doesnt do much to undead - or at least half damage. On to of that, isnt reay of frost a real weak spell too? Im at work (dont have the books in front of me) but I thought it was something like 1d4-1 or something like that. As long as were on the subject - use your bludgening weapons agaiant skeletons, not blades - they slip between the bones

BobBenton, Welcome to the Isle, make sure to check out the important info secion of the forums, there is... umm... important info there. Some undead are immune to cold, but not zombies. Chances are you found a zombie warrior (maybe zombie lord), much tougher than a regular zombie (also worth much more xp). Right click the enemy and examine it, that will show you the challenge rating for them, probably impossible at your level. That doesn't mean you can't kill them (impossibles), but it will be much more challenging than something your level. Even a regular zombie is a little dangerous at low levels, try a bow and stay away from them. edit: BTW, my casters have always used ray of frost, even at high levels. Better than missing with my cruddy AB when you run out of spells. I have finished off more than one creature with it and the venerable magic missle. Ray of frost is 1d4+1, not -1. Just as good as magic missle for levels 1 and 2 arcane casters.

Don't forget to try hunting some of those deadly deer, or getting your familiar riled up against some fire beetles in the mines.
I also heard Hili lost one of his miners... He is in his house in the southwest corner of West Styne at night (actually its Tagnar's, I they got a pre-nub), and he wanders around during the day... If you catch him, maybe you can ask him about it.

I think what Phoenix said was right, it was probably a tougher version of the zombie. What you need to understand is some monsters spawn as tougher versions if a more seasoned character spawned them. If another player ran through right before you, you got left with their mess. Just run away like all sorcerers should LOL Have fun

...but don't run long, zombies have the XP to get you through like 5 levels fast if you take a bow to 'em, they're crazy powerful but soooooo slow... ;D
Too bad HotU got rid of the ability to shoot bows over your shoulder, that would make things even easier, lol.
BTW, SKELETONS are the ones with like 8 hit points. Undead lesson: Skeletons are fast and powerful, but brittle Zombies are slow as molasses, but tough as nails and quite strong--15 HP IIRC
