Recently and in the past there have been many posts about subjects that could be dealt with through good player and RP practices that have asked for many things from Makz & the DM's. Subjects that come to mind are:
1. Overcrowding in W. Styne 2. Griefing 3. Area hogging for training 4. And I am sure there are many more
I have started this thread for the players to open discussions on these subjects. It is up to us in many cases to make Fredian more enjoyable for all. The only thing I ask is that we make sure that none of our "solutions" are anything that would require Makz to do anything on the developement end, undue DM involvement, or break any server rules.
Anyone care to start?

Problem one is simple enough. Just don't go to West Styne. I'm sure there are many people here who know each other and adventure alot together. So it may sound silly, but all it takes is for them to 'set up shop' in a different town or area.
There is little in West Styne that can't be found in other places.

I am new to this Island of Friedan and I really haven't grasped the whole aspect as of yet, but wouldn't some kind of player police of some kind be useful in some of these areas? If there already is such a thing, then please disregard.

If there already is such a thing, then please disregard. Well, there are players who have PC's who are knights who act as law enforcers. One of my PC's is one. However, at the moment, I am the only one around out of the several total.

daemuskross, As JoSmCa points out above there are knights. But if you witness something that is outside of server rules you can report it to a Knight or DM and should.

Yes, for ooc problems, you can come to a knight as they can actually punish a player for a first offense. Assuming the knight has been granted such access (there are various levels of access knights have). A first ooc offense means some time in a confined space for 10 minutes or longer (depending on the seriousness of the offense).

I think it's great for a few well-seasoned characters to hang around in West Styne to discuss topics around the fire--they can be a good resource for the newbies. Where I see the problem is when people start to have heated dicussions, fights, or just a huge number of summoned creatures all trailing behind. If there's a half-dozen or so people there, great. If there's about twenty, it's getting to be a bit much. And West Styne shouldn't be a place for having summoned undead wandering about behind any character--make it civil, folks--it's a town setting, and you'll scare the locals.
Okay--here's the biggest thing players can do (especially those of the "good" alignment): Hang around West Styne and watch for new folks to appear. Greet them nicely, and help them get started. If you spend twenty minutes getting them rolling, they are MUCH more likely to enjoy Fredian's atmosphere of helpfulness (which used to be a bit better, in my opinion) and they will probably come back. Or, maybe they won't. But, at least as a player, you're doing everything you can to help new people to Fredian learn about the island and enjoy themselves.
My character used to do this often, and stopped for a while, and now he's back at it again when not busy doing anything else. The problem is that he's lawful evil, and it's a bit troubling to have him being overly nice to the newbies when later on he's possibly not going to be nice to them at all (purely in rp). I put that issue aside, though, because I don't see any other characters spending time by the origination point waiting to help folks get started.
As players, I'm not sure if there's much better we can do than making the newest members of the island feel welcome and appreciated.

1) over crowding... hard to dfeal with this really, the shear genious of it is the Fire that Makz placed, and its a starting point that everyoe knows where to go, and is very easily accessed, and its small and quaint (if thats the word)
2) im not sure what you mean by griefing, if thats causing agro for other RPers OOC then granted players of fredian could improve themselves on that or try
3) area hogging, M8 there is more to fredian that training, you have crafting and whats that other thing?..... oh RPing ;D if someones there, someones there either join with them if they are willing, i am normally if no rules are broken, or Leave, go out and explore, i did it was fun also for the day there is over 20 quests 14 of which my newb char did earning her a lot of experience, im not going into details for the fact that it might be removed for sharing information so openly
4) there probly is maybe OOC stuff resorting to tells only, but thats extreme, im a pretty patient guy so i dont care that much about OOCing, but there are those that get really annoyed...
