Is the crafting book correct when it lists the max weapon and armor crafting skills at 1000?
I am at about 410 on both and it doesnt seem like new items are coming up.
No big deal. Just wondering. I am going to move on to tanning after I get to the max on both, just wondering if that is soon or still months away......
I thought I saw a post on this, but did not find anything in a search.

Yes its right. Or I think it is. All the weapon/armour crafters I know have 1000. Can you craft renown weapons yet?

What the book says, is what it is. tailoring used to go to 1000 but was padded so hard that it was almost impossible for some players, after reviewing it, it was lowered to 500. All skills that have a 1000 limit are however, definitely achievable.

Wow. Long way to go.
No, no weapons of renown yet, unless......There are two items in my exotic weapons list that I do not know what they are yet. One is 'ice pick', other is 'simple things' (names could be wrong ) Both show up as green, but I can not make either. But then again, I have not looked in book for them, and I do not have silver ingots right now. ( they could possibly need them I suppose )

See there you go. You mite just need alot more points to craft renown weapons.

You may not find new items appearing easily. but dont give up: sometimes you have to work on something that is light blue and once it reaches green, you can start something new. (eg. better material, other kind of weapon/armor) sometimes you also just have to work on something that is red...there are always hard phases in between.

New stuff will continue to open up, though at about 600 or so you can craft most weapons. The top end gets harder and harder to get points, since you are crafting larger items (two handed swords, two handed axes instead of daggers, and half-plate/full plate instead of helms). That doesn't mean there isn't a point in getting 1000 skill, when new items are brought in, they are generally at the higher end of the scale. If you stopped at 600, and the new weapon requires 850...
Armour crafting is pretty much the same way, except worse. 1/2 plate is ~25 ingots, and full plate is 50+2 large tanned pelts.

My plan is to keep on until about 500, then work on tanning so I can create the tanned hides I need, I may then take an excursion into tailoring for a while to see what its about. The stuff I am making now is a much higher lvl restriction than my current lvl now awayway.

Might as well go bear frenzing hunting, or start pricing your items for bear pelts.

Basically anyone who intends to tailor or armorcraft should begin collecting bear pelts from the beginning. You'll need thousands. Its alot better now that it maxes at 500 though. I got up to about 950 before Makz reduced it... so many bears were needlessly slaughtered for his oversight. He is irresponsible and should be held accountable for his misdeed - Makz shame on you! ;D Just Kidding - We love ya Makz ;D

LOL - If I had to suffer, why not you No, I dont think that Makz would do that. Tailoring's difficulty progression was just plain mean. No fault of Makz mind you - ATS had lots of problems from the get go... fine base, but the recipies and progressions it defaulted to were less than accurate. I recall tailoring being quite easy to get to about 250 or 300 - most of that was just working the dyes and lesser pelts, but after that you needed to start burning 2 bear pelts per item and it got rough. 500 felt like the point to be a master at.. maybe 600. I wouldnt feel off in recommending 600 - but there is little need. Makz wants the world to be fun, and tailoring was not - it was just this near unattainable goal

I don't know about 1000s. You get to about 250 just by working flowers into dyes, so that's only 250 more points of crafted items. With The Red Wizard (high int.) I'll probably only require 600-700 pelts to get the other 250 points, probably x2 at worse for low int. I'm having a hard time figuring out what I want to finish next, tailoring or armour crafting, probably to tailoring... Gah! Bears beware!!!! edit: hmm, forgot it's x2 pelts for cloaks... OK maybe thousands is accurate.

Lemme just say that I had ~ 4000 pelts into it at 950. Low int though. Heres my guess at the breakdown as I see it to let would be tailors know what they might expect by way of pelt needs. To get to 950 I needed something like this: ~200 pelts from 250 - 350 = ~ 2 pelts per point ~4000 pelts from 350 - 950 = ~ 6.667 pelts per point
So to get to 500 should be around: 250 - 350 = ~ 200 pelts 350 - 500 = ~ 1000 pelts
So we can probably safely say you probably will need a total of: 1400 (+/- 200) for low INT 700 (+/- 100) for high INT (results erring on the high side - worst case scenarios)
