I want to indicate that my character swears a lot. How can I do this?
Can I use stars and/or dashes? That -ing little ****er has ****ed me off for the last -ing time!
How about other words? That cursed little beggar has flaming annoyed me for the last godsdarned time!
How about made up words? That fardling little snarf!
How do I indicate to people in the game that my character is a foul-mouthed little ******* without offending anyone?
Cheers Craig

You will see a few of my characters 'swear' from time to time...Verbena and Brenna particularly. Keep in mind that game flavor swearing usually will not incorporate modern western slang or curse words. I personally like brownie-esque swearing ala 'Willow.' As long as swearing is IC and reasonably inoffensive (I think we can all use a bit of common sense here) it isn't a problem. If the character is that foul mouthed, use the string of symbols.

I would reommend coming up with your own version of abrasive speech. Its more work, but if you can come up with a half dozen really creative phrases that really have no conventional curse words in them it will just add to the flavor of your character. Some of the voicesets Ive heard even have a few. Otherwise foriegn phrases can be good, but you kinda have to be carefull there too because we are an international community. Not feeling creative? Scour the internet a bit - Im sure theres lots of good stuff out there. On a cursory search, this site might have an idea or two if nothing else, itsgood for a laugh www.insultmonger.com/swearing/

And keep inmind swearing OOC and particullarly at a DM, will get you in trouble ask Morro... oh wait, he's gone. Totally different issue.

I have always believed that characters who swore would take deities' names in vain. In a Greyhawk campaign I had made swear phrses up for most of the gods there - rude and alliterative phrases (for example Boccob's Bottom!).
Since we had two clerics of Farlanghan in the party I saved that swear phrase for a good moment...
When I used it, I wish I had a camera. The look I got from the two players was absolutely priceless!
