Well My 2nd hard drive took its final spin... and that had all my games (NwN included) along with an irreplaceable collection of mame/nintendo/genesis/Snes roms... not to mention my 400hours of rare death metal mp3s and Ad&D 2nd edition .PDFs... I think im most upset about the metal and D&D books... the Roms were YEARS of collectingand that hurt too... I wish this was a case of easy come easy go... I know I know... Shoulda backed up... but my burner is being a pregnant dog right now too... Well Ill miss you guys and im sure you'll all miss your favorite villain Blaspherothe the Blackhearted... Should be back on sometime next week after i get the new HDD in the mail... im going with IBM (those drives NEVER DIE) and this just gives me an exscuse to do THE BIG REFORMAT / RE-OS /super reinstall of EVREYTHING that ive been putting off for too long anyhow. Anyways, tell evreyone OOC that I'll be back (specually my buddy Rose) and what happened... Thanks Guys --->Blaspheroth

OW.... btw, Western Digital is the best =-) Never had one fail. I still have a 540MB made in 1994 that is STILL running... They just don't fail. At all. Never. NOne. Zilch. Just doesn't happen man And that 540 was purchased from IBM. a link? The above is only the opinion of the writer and is not necessarily the views of the Island of Fredian, all of its creator(s), or staff

I just asked someone in my IT department about it and I guess the story goes there was a period where WD stopped using Applied Magnetics (in SB!) for the hard drive heads, and switched to IBM. During that period, IBM heads were pretty bad... there was even some recalls on the drives. Later on, they got the kinks worked out, and WD became good again.
Applied Magnetics went out of business, and IBM now has Hitachi make their drives.
The bad stuff you probably heard was during that period. Since I buy drives interspersed over a few years at a time, I probably missed it during the interval.

Consider searching for "Disk Recovery". There are a number of tech services that will attempt to recover your lost files.

I have to say that Ive seen dozens of WDs fail in my time. Granted, I was supporting approzimately 4000 or so PCs at that time and it may have been during addicteds time frame in part at least. I still buy them though. I will say this about WD: 1. Up side - if/when they fail, WD is VERY friendly about giving out replacement drives, even if it is only a handfull of bad sectors. 2. WD drives (historically) run pretty loud at the same spin rate as others. If noise is a concern, you MIGHT want to look elsewhere. Good luck on retrieving what data you can

PRE HITACHI... ive read about the ibm/hitachi drives being not as reliable... but nough o that im glad to be back and swinging seeya around IG
