I didn't want to hijack Ore's thread either, but A2RPG made a comment that I wanted to comment on
He said: "DMwise, I know that a being like Carralus which inherits the Damien AI is probably not meant to be killed on a regular basis -- only every once and awhile. So I would expect that level of achievement. We just don't want him to be systematically harvested and overpopulate the game with rare and highly coveted items...."
I can truly understand that. I just wonder why Makz did not make the Arrow of Arcane Death an "Arrow of Renown" and not a part of the main skill-point system of fletching. Perhaps the intent is to keep people from mastering fletching ... I'm not sure.
As a general piece of information - It took me 34 bags of Balor blood to get through the Acid arrows. That is 476 viles of blood. To master fletching I would need to take Caralus down that many times.

So, in other words, by putting it in a different book, make it different seriously, Arcane Arrow of Death is like any renown item it is at the very end of the skill tree, it still requires, just like any other renown item, you to collect and go up more. If getting through that is THAT difficult, I will look at it for sure, but, I have a feeling the troubles may be MUCH deeper, and be due to the basic engine of ATS dating back to pre-HotU levels of stats of players, although one would think DC100 checks should be enough , NWN's engine also has wrap around bugs which I have referred to in the past, as has addicted, and if that is the case, either way we are lost......... Needless to say, I am not again re-writing ATS, or putting more energy into it to make it handle something for people who basically expect everything right now in play. And really, even 60 hours is right now in a REAL skill ... I know it is tedious. Think of people like me who are accomplished, but still learning stuff after playing music say for 34 yrs how many hours is that ? just saying, not belittling anyones efforts of play time. One last note.. I did many time myself with the older version of ATS make it all the way through, there was a lot less to do though, and trust me.. I definitely would have loved an auto-do function sometimes LOL. Makz.

I think the whole matter is the difficulty of Carralus and the requirement of 3 of his essenses per attempt just to try and make an arrow. When you start out in the red, you get an awful lot more failures attempting to make the item than you do when it is dark blue. In the other tradeskills like weapon crafting, tailoring, bowyering etc... you can max out an item and you always have another item in a different category in the same trade skill that is either dark blue or light blue so you can progress even more without wasting a lot of attempts and components working in the red. Plus since the difficulty of Carralus is so high, wouldn't it make more sense to make the requirement 1 blood per attempt? I know you have said before that it is definately worth it. But tell you the truth, as for my chars that I have on there. None of them have no chance against Carralus so I myself have no chance of even getting the components unless I barter them from someone. I think this goes to what Ore was trying to say. This is just my opinion.

I understand your concerns, but there is another side to this - the crafters on the island. There are some crafters (myself included) who wish to become grand masters of crafting. I don't even have an arcane archer character, so I can't even use the arrows. I just want to become the best crafter I can be.

Bottom line on this, it's meant to be difficult, it was TOO difficult, making it less so in gathering only. Finished, in next update 1 instead of 3 essences required, still a b to do, but less deadly . Closed. Makz.
