OK folks I throw this one out to you, I think the last $800 I spent on the server needs some donations coming in!!
To be able to go to a 2 server setup (which is what we need to keep up with numbers) if that is where we should go? I need to place 2 NIC's per server allowing a crossover between them and thereby increase reliability and speed of exchange for things like player movements and data across the two machines.
After extensively researching this, my best option is 4 x PWLA8391MT Intel Cards these are the same type as the one I bought not long ago, except only in PCI mode not PCI-X/PCI... each one costs around $50 each, 52 exactly on Amazon, 49 on ebay, and various other prices around.
So... your choice... you want two servers for IoF, that is the next step before I do ANY more work on areas for the 2nd server etc. I need performance checks etc done.
If not we'll muddle through on current one machine.

My entire opinion about 1 vs 2 servers lies soley around if any interserver 'tells' are available - if that isnt there, I would rather we stay with one and try to control the total population more via posting more or less as needed on gamespy. I will, of course, be willing to pony up some more cash to accomplish the 2 server method if the communications are there.
I will be donating again pretty soon either way... hope some others are doing so as well.

Makz, I know you've put a lot of money and time into Fredian, and I for one am happy to donate. Could you perhaps suggest an amount of money that you would like to see people donate? That could help give us an idea of what you're expecting.... like do you want 20 people to donate $50, or 40 people to dontate $25?
I'm sure that all donations are welcome (whatever the size), but it would just help some of us that aren't really sure how much you're really hoping to receive if you don't mention a desired donation amount.

As some will tell you I never normally like to ask for donations, my wife and I are not badly off. However, that being said, it is not fair to expect her to constantly spend her money on my expensive hobbies, as she does. Recently in addition to actual hardware, I upgraded the ISP connection to the 384kb uplink and that set us back another $30 per month, and that is purely for the use of IoF, I have no need nor does my family of that kind of uplink, and I have no other choices than who I use for my ISP for broadband of that type.
If each of 40 players donated even $20 each, that would be appreciated more than I can say towards offsetting what this costs my wife. But I certainly am not asking for it, and do not expect it... I merely point out this is a real cost, not something that I get for free.
As always IoF is free for your enjoyment, and I will do my best, once I am fully better, to make it the best I can as always.

I was going to wait till I finish the slave system fixes, but this interserver business looks like an issue ready for escalation. The fixes will still be coming, but I'm going to take my time about them since it is non-critical and obviously now that this other question is out of the box, it is more important that it be answered instead.
I've always chosen to donate in the form of time contribution, but now that I have received the wonderful benefits of employment, it is probably time to cough up the cash. Heavens knows Makz has spent more on it than he will ever receive.

How to donate to Makz: Just a reminder, this has been under 'Important Information' for a very long time. Please read all the posts there at least one time (expecially those titled with a Critical or High importance) [/b][/size]

Another incoming donation!
Regardless, I'm with Silentus on the 1 vs 2 server setup. If no portalling and/or communication between the servers is possible, I'd rather stick with the 1 server setup. And a healthy creator. Don't sweat too much over this. At least not until you have recovered your health.

First of all thanks to those that have donated. I am on hold well and truly now... I was fiddling with some registry settings on my dev/games machine and nuked everything... losing things I can't replace, including the work I had been doing on server 2's mod :/ yes, no backup... I have been so busy with trying to not do all sorts of things.. oh well. Anyway, traffic has slowed down again on the server, as it does, and addicted is working on the interserver chat thing, and thinks he knows a way to get that, that to me is still imperative to make 2 servers work. This will go ahead when he has that sorted out, and I have the real need and am back up to speed.

I have contacted the Avlis people. Basically there is no inter-server messaging system in NWN that writes directly acrossed socket and shoved into the game's RAM. There is a bit of discussion about it on the NWNX developer forums. I would have to submit a patch to NWNX2 myself if we are going to see this kind of thing, and I am in no way committing to that at this time. However, we do have asynchronous communication available to us. What you will expect is a little lamp you rub or something and an aerial servant will appear (like a djinn or something). Bound by the terms of the Fredian contract long ago, made at the separation from Nardial ( edit: Nardiar,Makz), the aerial servants are bound to deliver messages from above and below acrossed the planar rift which prohibits telepathic communication. In 6 seconds or less, they will send a hand-written note (via the quill) to any recipient you may specify..... on the other server.
