An Elf sits down at the table in the Destiny Inn and calmly, pulls various items out of his pack and places them on the table before him. These objects seem a slightly odd assortment for one who has never been heard to utter the language of magic, yet here they sit: Five beautiful scroll cases, an ornate pen & ink kit, a slate tablet with silver frame & fine white chalk and finally a book, worn with use, with no title written on the spine or cover. He then proceeds to open one scroll case and pulls out a host of documents – he pages through them, selects one, rolls the rest back up and places them carefully back into the engraved ivory tube. He holds forth the document to you and extends his hand in an open gesture, encouraging you to read the document that is writen in your own racial language:
Greetings, I apologize for having to make your acquaintance in this fashion, but as you will read, I have little other choice. My name is Silentus – a name which was bestowed upon me by my Lathanderian brethren and which befits my peculiar condition. You see, 35 years hence I arrived on their doorstep, much like an unwanted bastard infant with the exception that I was already an adult. I had no knowledge of my history, no knowledge of my heritage and could not speak. The good brothers took me in and after a battery of testing, found that I did recognize many forms of the elven tongues as well as their written counterparts. With that common ground, they spent years helping me to learn how to communicate with other races; recognize and write their languages. They taught me of the arts, of the histories of my own race and others, politics, and combat both armed & unarmed. Most importantly they taught me of the grace of Lathander whom I could write of all day. Strangely, that very God of new beginnings saw to it that I, as you, were sent here to the Fredian Isle to be reborn into this world.
For me, this is a first chance at a life, as my memory of my previous life nearly absent. I am finding however that many others here have taken this opportunity as a second beginning, a rebirth of sorts, to reconstruct who they are and who they wish to be. This is truly Lathander’s way, however having no memory of my own, I have a true desire to know history. While I promote the changes people have made in their lives here, I wish to document their histories and, if they will permit it, publish them. Thus you find me before you. I ask you confide in me – tell me your story as you wish it be known. Tell me who you believe yourself to have been and who you find yourself to be now in this new world. Do not fear that I shall change your story – I shall not, I am a chronicler, not an editor. Be as truthful as you can, for posterity. Be as verbose if you wish, for accuracy. And be as daring as you may, for clemency. Baring your soul and past transgressions can be a very cathartic experience. Confide in me and immortalize yourself.
Upon the return of his statement, he writes on the slate tablet ‘Will you tell me your story as others have? I yearn to hear it!’ and slides it to you. Then, taking out the pen and ink, he opens the well worn book and prepares to write...
ooc: If you wish to tell Silentus your story, you may do so here in this forum OR you may tell him in character during the game (in which I will log the conversation and compile it with others here). Please note: Some storys make thier way to the books placed around IoF!
