There’s a group of followers of the Maimed God that are called The Excelsior Order of Justice; they protect the peace and justice of Excelsior, the gate town to Mount Celestia in the outlands.
Most on this island never heard of pers, creatures created by gods to guard the upper planes portals against unauthorized intruders. The members of this order that guards the portal to Tyr’s realm were named to honour those creatures, using the noble title of Pers.
These loyal servants of Tyr are bounded to their duty, and received this title from their god after the Battle of Ninety Souls, were no more than 100 soldiers fought 2000 creatures from the lower lands. Evil was laughing at the small forces that protected the gateway when Hammer Lord Johan Alight spoke:
“Brothers and Sisters,
Thou shall NOT build thy fame,
Thou shall NOT earn the glory of this battle,
Thou shall LEAVE this sacred battleground if thou seek these mortal prizes!
Thou are here cause it’s thy DUTY,
Give thy lives and protect what is godly, expect no reward but the peace that thy lives were given to protect the entrance to Lunia, the realm of Our Just Overlord.
May the thunder of war clash these fiends, so none shall cross the holy door!
Brothers and Sisters, MAY THE MAIMED GOD HAVE MERCY OF OUR ENEMIES, NONE SHALL STAND!!! CHARGE!!!”
After fifteen hours only ten tyrrans were standing, but the gate to The Court were untouched. Fewer than 200 beasts were left and they began retreating by the command of a pit fiend.
The tyrran commander, Johan, was beginning his victory speech when the gate opened, a bearded man having just one hand appeared, a simple wood hammer was attached to his belt and his armour was a common breast plate, but the ten braves comprehend who was the stranger, they stood over their knees and lowered their heads.
The man said: “Raise, braves and righteous, I don’t need any me signs of respect and dedication, it has been long since I saw courage and duty like today. This day thou shall look me in the eyes.” The ten stood; Tyr said: “Raise also my fallen children, raise and find peace in my kingdom.” Ninety balls of light left from the bodies of the tyrrans that lay on the floor, Tyr pointed to the gate and the lights crossed the portal.
The God spoke: “From this day forward thou shall not be known as knights, thy bravery deserves a title to honour this battle, from now thou shall be called Pers, as the creatures that guard our portals. I give thee, Per Johan Alight, the duty and honour to raise this order, The Order of Tyrran Pers, who will protect all gates to Lunia and only those of pure heart and just soul will enter my realms. Blessed be thy courage and spirit.”
