While it is true that many a great hero has walked the ground of Fredian always a great hero arises from next to nothing. Such a hero was Lance Dragonmar, else known as the Dragonborn. A truly mysterious person no one actually knew anything about.
It seems that one day he just appeared and took his place as one of the protectors of the realm. All the while his story has been unknown...until now.
Now where shall I begin? Of course I will begin where all stories start, from the beginning.
Lance was born in a small remote village somewhere in Fredian. His mother beeing a sorceress lived with him on her own after a career as an adventurer. While nothing was know about Lance's father his mother remained tight-lipped about the man's true identity. Obviously she was not very proud of Lance's father.
While Lance grew his hair seemed to obtain a strange redish color and that fact seemed to scare his mother, this Lance didn't knew the cause of. He grew and became stronger and wiser than most of his comrades, truly his ancestry was as starnge as his father.
His identity would had been unknown were it not for a tragic accident. One night a bandit gang attacked the village and demanded the money of the townsfolk in exchange for their lives. Terrified, the villagers had to obey. Lance saw it and a fury unlike any other rose from his mind. With a scream he charged the bandits who only laughed. But laughed they did not when burning fire erupted from Lance’s lips and in mere seconds the bandit gang had been almost eraducated. The bandits, rather living to fight the next day, ran from the village in fear. But Lance’s troubles were not over just yet. The villagers was terrified as well and thought Lance a monster in human disguise. They drove Lance and his mother from the village and up into the mountains. It was a journey of silence, lance’s mother did not said anything and Lance knew that she was well knowing the cause of his sudden powers. They said little, traveled in days until they were supprised by a snowstorm. Taking shelter in a cave Lance suddenly saw his mother frozen by fear, knowing not the cause. A man suddenly appeared from within the cave, red-haired and with a strange gleam in his eyes.
“You have returned” he stated at Lance’s mother “Trough I warned you of the consequences you were ignorant. I thought the humility was enough a punishment to you but you obvioulsy want more...”
Lance’s mother was terrified.
“No, please, it was a misstake...”
“A misstake at the expense of your life!” the man growled and as his voice became deeper his form widened and took a more reptilian look, the look of a red dragon. Lance’s mother rashly pushed Lance aside and the terrible fire blast caught her straight. She began to burn and Lance knew it was lethal.
“Lance...” she screamed “he is your...faaaa!” she never ended that sentance and was dead.
“Truly” the dragon growled “that my offspring would come and see me personaly, an without the features I expected. Her human blood must be stronger than I had imagined!”
Lance feelt the fears coming, he feared what the dragon was going to say...
“Yes, I am your father”
His world stopped, time froze. Never would he had believed that a foul and evil Red Dragon would be his father, a creature as evil as the hells themselves.
“And you are of my blood, there is no escape. Serve me and I will show you mercy”
Maybe, Lance thought. Maybe that was the right thing to do, inevitably he would become as evil himself, why fight the inevitable.
The dragon was winning and Lance almost gave himself up, but just almost. Here his inborn human goodness triumphed over the evil of the dragon. His mother had sacrificed himself to protect him, never would he let her sacrifice be in vain and never would he let his blood steer his cause.
“Never! I will never serve you! You killed my mother and I defile the evil of your blood, of my blood! These powers will be used in a way I deem fitting, not you. Never!”
“Then you shall be destroyed” the dragon stated and another blast of fire erupted from its mouth. Lance didn’t tried to jump aside, he knew it was hopeless. At last the creature wouldn’t be give the joy of watching him run. But then something even stranger happened. The fire just bounced off, it didn’t harm Lance even the slightest. His dragon blood! It had given him the ability to withstand fire!
Seeing his chance, Lance threw himself out of the cave and ran away into the night.
“We’ll see again!” the dragon roared after him, fearing the raging snowstorm “if you survive this night I’ll see you again. And then mercy is not on my list of actions!”
Yes, Lance survived. He escaped his “fate” and knew his blood. For years he traveled the mountains, seeking to learn more of dragonkind and met his future mentor, the Gold Dragon Equilinchiax who well understood what Lance had went trough. He learned Lance how to control his powers, to not let the red dragon blood overcome him and take control. The dragon taught him in the ways of Bahamut, the platinum dragon and god of good dragonkind. Lance became a Paladin of this god, one of and perhaps the only human one.
Then he appeared, seeking to extract revenge upon his foul father of a dragon and using his powers in the service of justice he is on Fredian.
He is lance Dragonmar. He is born of the Dragon. Nothing will stop him, only death itself.
