It's a fine, sunny day along the green coastline where his house is located, just north of the farmlands. Visibility is good. The ocean stretches as far as the eye can see. The waves are rolling in like carpets, crashing along the shoreline. Seagulls can be found soaring overheard, making their long and peaceful circles. Just to the southwest of the house, a waterfall is found crashing downward from a steep cliff. A few brown bears can be seen on top, lazily basking in the sun. The breeze is soft and gentle.
Mackenzie stands up from a bench just outside his house. The braziers surrounding recently snuffed out, smoke escaping into the atmosphere. Mackenzie relies on his staff to help him walk for the time being. His foot wrapped in fresh bandages he recently replaced. His right arm has also been wrapped up in bandages, although the healing rate on his arm has been accelerating quicker than his foot. He can used his right arm to carry light objects and can slowly move it without too much pain. He stares out into the vastness of the ocean, thinking of all the events that have taken place as of recent.
What have I done to deserve this? I have a daughter who constantly ridicules me with her blackened heart. She pains me deeply. It's not the physical pain she inflicted on me, but the deep down inside pain. I am afraid I will never see the end of her shadow looming over me until she meets a grim end.
Mackenzie turned around, adjusting his staff appropriately. He walks around the bench, past the flower bed, and to Cella's grave. He notices the new seedlings Hanah has planted in the ground. He smiles briefly. He averts his eyes to the tombstone, just looking at it with thought.
Where have I failed you Cella? We were great together once. It just fell apart. Most others saw you in a negative light. I saw the opposite. Sure, I admit that you had flaws. Everyone does. I felt I have failed you in raising Lanah the right way. I keep thinking there was something more I could have done to steer Lanah down a better path. Perhaps I couldn't have done anything. After all, she was offspring to Keira. Her destiny probably already carved in stone the day she was conceived.
Mackenzie takes a long, deep sigh and walked behind the tombstone, returning his gaze once again to the ocean. He darts his eyes back and forth all over the ocean, trying to find some meaning out of the different patterns over the ocean surface.
And Keira...she is back. I had hoped she was gone forever, but it looked like I hoped for too much. She has already started to give me grief. Namely started with abducting Salacia and forced her into slavery. It was like a hit down below the belt. Trying to rip a large part of my happiness out of my heart. Keira succeeded in that to an extent. I don't think she intended for Salacia to return back to me so quickly. But she succeeded. Salacia has changed. She has become more aggressive and stronger. Not that she lost her kind side completely, it's like she found some inner strength somehow. I don't know if it's a good thing or not. Guess I will find out. However, Salacia's experience in the hands of Ahlin scared her somehow. I have a good idea what happened to Salacia, but I prefer not to think about it. Salacia doesn't want to talk about it either. So I will keep the subject at rest until she decides otherwise.
Xyon walks out and greets his brother. Xyon adds a serious tone to his voice. "Mackenzie, I have things to take care of. I have learned some things that are most distressing, but fear not. I will come back unharmed. You must get your rest now."
Mackenzie gives a slight nod and hugs his brother. Xyon treads away, towards the south. Mackenzie watches him. He knows that he has not been affected by similar demons that he has. Or perhaps he has and became galvanized from his experiences. Mackenzie only wishes for the same.
Mackenzie slowly hobbles into the house and into his bed downstairs and gets some much needed rest.
