We need to decide where the law shall be enforced and how it is reported. This can be discused at the same time as our other live topics. Please note that I have alot of options here, but simplicity should be in the forefront of your mind - I just wanted to make sure I wasnt pigeon-holing anyone.
I pose to you the following questions (select one): 1. Who can report a crime? ...a. Anyone who heard of the crime ...b. Any direct visual witnesses ...c. Only the victim or a knight ...d. Only the victim of the crime ...e. Only a knight may witness a crime ...f. others I didnt mention here
2. Crimes committed in what areas can be reported (select all that apply)? ...a. Everywhere ...b. Inside All residences / businesses ...c. All Castille City Areas ...d. All Styne Populated Areas (e - l) ......e. West Styne ......f. North Styne ......g. Styne Inner Castle ......h. Inner Styne Harbor ......i. Styne Harbor ......j. Styne Harbor Point ......k. Styne Village ......l. East Styne ...m. Whillem ...n. Fredian Farmlands (north and south) ...o. Fredian Desert North
3. Suspects can be apprehended seen by knight in what areas (select all that apply)? ...a. Everywhere ...b. Inside All residences / businesses ...c. All Castille City Areas ...d. All Styne Populated Areas (e - l) ......e. West Styne ......f. North Styne ......g. Styne Inner Castle ......h. Inner Styne Harbor ......i. Styne Harbor ......j. Styne Harbor Point ......k. Styne Village ......l. East Styne ...m. Whillem ...n. Fredian Farmlands (north and south) ...o. Fredian Desert North
--- My personal take --- 1 b 2 cd 3 a

I wont let you "wait" for me this time... lol
1b 2a (my thinking.... you can *report* a crime that occured anywhere's but the knights juresdiction will override whether he can just go out and get that person.) 3d

1. B 2. B,C,D Isn't Ranestadt a Gnome controlled city? How is that even an choice? 3. B,C,D My view is both 2 and 3 should be the same. Unless there was exceptional reason to leave the controlled lands to collect a special fugitave or something, the knights would be needed at 'home' to protect and follow-up on crimes there.

At this point in time, crimes should be allowed to be reported in all community areas, but like the less populated areas of Arizona, you may only have 1 "policeman" per 200 square miles, places like Whillim, the farmlands and the desert, a Knight will only be dispatched if a crime is reported, and could take them awhile to get there.

Ranestadt is NOT under ANYTHING to do with Castille/Styne, it is as was observed, Gnome controlled and they have NO allegiance to anyone.

Ranestadt removed (although apprehention of suspects may still occur there in the case of a jail break until we get a a new prison).

OK here we go. .
1: B (unless victim failed memory roll naturally, victim as well) 2: E-L (except I+J) and N 3: A
I think that pretty much sums it up, except maybe Styne areas would also be the areas adjacent to Styne Areas. . .

I agree with Phoenix that 2 and 3 should be the same. The purpose of this was to establish a jurisdiction. If we say knights can legally apprehend people anywhere, then their jurisdiction is everything. What we're saying with that is the King's Law extends everywhere. BUT, if we say that crimes can only be reported (enforced, as I understand it?) in a limited area, then we are saying the King's Law does NOT extend everywhere. I apologize, perhaps I'm merely misunderstanding the intention of the differentiation, but as I read it now, it appears that a knight could theoretically witness a crime, say in Ranestadt, and not be able to arrest the criminal because it is not an area the King's Law is enforced in, but if that same knight sees someone who committed a crime in West Styne walking around in Ranestadt, he can arrest him. I'm thinking of this like an American cop in Cuba. One day he sees a guy rob a bank. He can't do anything because he's out of his jurisdiction. Then he sees another guy who he knows is wanted in America. In reality, he still can't do anything. He could try to get the guy arrested, but the guy hasn't done anything wrong in Cuba, so it's a no-go. According to our theory, though, said cop could walk up to said criminal, knock him over the head, cuff him, and drag him back to America. I guess what I'm saying is, if we don't put a limit on apprehension, then there's really no such thing as jurisdiction. If that's the case, what's the point of having an evil stronghold?

I think not allowing chases outside of styne/castille proper basically kills the system... alll you have to do is jump over one screen... kill someone in west styne and hide in the KINGS forrest where the KINGS Knights have no power to apprehend? it's kinda silly... It is easy enough to avoid west styne and make a run for it using the Kehaar stones without having the knights hands tied with chase restrictions...
Also while Ranestadt is free i think since they currently house our Jail there is a special case there... i'm sure they would allow extradition and apprehension... after all we keep doing them a favor....

I wasn't thinking about the chase factor in my last post. I was more considering the longer reaching effects of the "anywhere" clause. That is an excellent point though. Perhaps the jurisdiction should be something like 2 or 3 areas of proximity to the areas we named. In other words, if West Styne is an area of control, then the King's forest and all of the areas surrounding West Styne (up to 2 or 3 zones away) would also be considered part of the area of control. If we say that 3 zones isn't enough, that people could easily stop at the fourth zone and say "nyah nyah nyah," then the question arises of when is enough enough? Will 5 zones make more of a difference? 10? 20? I figure if you can't catch up to them in 3 zones, you're probably not going to. My point is, we're trying to establish jurisdiction, aka boundaries. After the criminal leaves the knight's jurisdiction, that's where bounty hunters come in.
