Sorry the options are limited, but I feel this best probes the criteria (player happiness) that we are aiming at examining.

I am seriously opposed to West Styne being No-PvP.. I am honestly opposed to even the crafting places being No=pvp also ((Btw you can still *unfire* the forges)) It almost seems like instead of ingame something was done about the exsesive violence in WS the pvp setting were just changed as a quick fix... =\ All at once.. No sparring .. No killing derto ((Which I HATE)) .. No brawls.. ((Which are really fun btw)) .. and ZERO fear of Pick Pockets... IMO the last one hits hardest.. There will now be a record low of arrest... not becuase there aren't criminals that want to comit crimes.. but becuase they simply "Can't bring themselves to it."

i find it a bit better, i mean i can just see a low level walk into west styne with a happy smile on his and a little mischeavous chuckle saying "hehehe im a newb" then being caught up in the center of a hellball, though the aspect is funny i disagree with it. having West styne shoudl remain as it is,
as for those who disagree with me we all have my opinions i think that west styne is a good place for RP but if you want to pvp there, you just seem to linger like... id rather not say, grow out of west styne its a rp area there are loads of places to go...

Example #1: some weeks ago now, West Styne was its usual madhouse. I raised not one but *two* newbs fresh from the login platform. One was killed by a spell blast and the other by one of many traps someone took the liberty to liberally sprinkle about, under the watchful eye, IC and OOC cautions from a present knight. I took the time to explain that Fredian is really a wonderful server and that this was atypical. I have not seen either of those individuals since.
Example #2: while RPing a lively discussion around the fire with Fredians old and new, a brawl broke out nearby. An inquiry indicated that they were more than likely testing each other's builds. After several polite efforts both IC and OOC asking if they would mind relocating to the arena (made more poignant by the number of Raise Dead scrolls the combatants went through) and two people actually having their apps crash out (presumably because of the spell effects) one of our number decided enough was enough and decided to relocate them OOC.
In both cases things became OOC. In both cases things were first addressed IC. In both cases people were having un-fun. These are dark examples out ouf what is otherwise a generally good atmosphere in West Styne IMO... but it would appear that events such as those I've described have tipped the scales. If people cannot take OOC considerations seriously it would appear necessary to have a place to shelter our newer players and those who wish to just have a quiet chat. While I view this unfortunate it is a reasonable consequence of our actions. In no way does having a minute fraction of the server No-PVP limit one's ability to spar, kill NPCs, brawl or pickpocket. In fact, the redesigned portion of Castille may be New West Styne...
We brought this upon ourselves. Now we deal with the consequences.

Yep, that's where we are heading I think. W. Styne=beginers/meeting area.
Take things you would have done to Castille.
I will be on tonight, and since I haven't been on since the change I'll stay my vote for now, but I'm pretty sure I'll like it. Also, as suggested, this may only be a transitional period (noPVP). Once things get moving and shaking in Castille, it wouldn't surprise me to see W. Styne a full PVP area again.

Whins"" boohoo Oh come on this is D&D people. I guess some of you never played table top D&D though, so I can bare with it. People dont stop playing D&D because they get killed if they do this is the wrong game. Have fun people lets stop bickering and argueing about who killed who. This is suppose to be a happy occation. ( but he killed my aunty) ;D

;D *Bravo to Hanah and Phoenix!*
The island is such a HUGE place and West Syne is so very very small. I am personally looking forward to seeing Castille become the great city it was meant to be. I still need to see the new changes though. Castille for me was always a really creepy place that was foggy all the time. Plus the guy yelling about the plague every five seconds kills it as a hang out spot.
But as far as West Styne being a no-pvp I think its wonderful. Its where newb's log-in and there is NO reason for violence and pick-pocketing there. The island is big enough for grand adventures out side that small town.
If you ask me, if the RP crowed moved to Castille everyone would follow. The RP people are really the life of the server. (even TeamEvil - those guys ROCK!)
So thanks Makz for making an executive decision and making the right choice. *applaudes*

I am satisfied with West Styne being as it is currently. Castille, in my opinion, would be a better place for players to hang out at while West Styne being the meeting place for newer players. For now, things appear to be quiet with little to no arrests by the knights, but we are in a transitional period. Hopefully more and more players will be in Castille from now on.

I like the No PVP, because some people cannot comprehend keeping that area calm for new arrives to get their feet wet and have a chance to look around.
I'm also going to make a point of doing as much of my errand running threw West Styne as possible. While we don't want new characters slaughtered and run off, we don't want them to feel totally left out when they are looking for someone to RP with. Check the names as people log in, if one comes in totally unfamiliar and you know West Styne is empty and you are nearby, maybe go get some supplies.
You never can tell about a new character until you meet them. They may be a paladin, want to be a squire under the direction and tutalage of a knight or even another member of "team evil". They may like RP but love hack & slash more, or vis-versa.
Let's not let West Styne become a ghost town with only NPCs. Just the other day Aeradon stopped his errands to have an interesting chat with Mala in West Styne.
And as far as West Styne some day going back to PVP, it probably could eventually, when the main players show they can respect the rules and requests made for the betterment of the community. Makz never should of had to threaten banning people to bring about the changes.

Well having spent copious amounts of time sitting by myself in Castille and in West Styne, I think that the no PvP may be contributing to the ghost town effect in West Styne. I would rather see players simply behaving themselves while having fun than the hand of god having to be employed.
*shrugs*
On the up side, Mala will have a great reputation as Fredian's best talking guidebook from giving directions and dining suggestions by the West Styne fire.

Oh yeah, and while benches are nice, folks please stand up before you log out...broken benches are annoying

The changes to Castille kick arse. Very meeting place, crafting market, and what I assume is a row of housing for players. I love the palm trees, gives it an oasis feel, since it is near the desert and all. Kinda made me think that was the reason Castille was built was that nice water source. The removal of the "the end is near!" guy is nice too. I though a couple of the benches were borked (first two I tried to sit on) so I tried all of them. The rest worked, but the first two gave me trouble... After a bit I figured out I had to click on the bench when approaching it from certian directions, then I could sit on all of them. So they may not be broken, just hard to sit on. I'll check them out again next time I login to see if it's a bug or not, but it looked like it. BTW I didn't know logging out broke the benches and I did it last night, but was able to sit on it again when I logged back on. Lumix, Nice pics, perhaps our resident bard could add to the flavor of the area with some music since our death preaching, town crier is gone. ;D W. Styne, ahh that is such a small little town isnt' it?
